Where is still warm in Europe at Oct half term?

We are considering a holiday during October half term but was wondering if anywhere in Europe is still hot.
We usually do Easyjet flights and an Airbnb but flights to the Canaries/Crete/Cyprus are really expensive then.
I was looking at the Algarve or Costa del Sol but has anyone been there at the end of October? What was the weather like? Sea temperature?
Any other locations?

We have a property in Spain just over the border from The Algarve and we often used to go in October half term. The temperatures were usually around 20 and sunny but a couple of times it was much hotter. The pool was useable but chilly bit the kids don’t seem to mind (not tiny though) and they used wetsuits in the sea.
I have been to Cyprus in October too and that was hotter

BiniorellaSun · 12/06/2021 14:15

Canaries or Cyprus

Hairbrush123 · 12/06/2021 21:45

I went to Barcelona in October a few years ago and it was lovely. Mid 20s in the day and high teens in the evening. I’m fantasizing now about being Ciutadella Park now, lazing in the shade with a good book! Hope you can go somewhere OP.

What about Madeira? Sicily?

pinkhousesarebest · 12/06/2021 22:01

Corsica. We have had great holidays also on the Cote d’Azur In October - Menton/ Antibes. Mind you , two years ago torrential rain washed away the train lines and we couldn’t get home.

Ligglepiggle · 12/06/2021 22:05

Did Egypt last time travel was allowed October half term Hmm that was still warm

SiobhanSharpe · 12/06/2021 22:05

We've had very warm holidays in Northern France in late October!
(We had taken entirely the wrong clothes for the weather)
Obviously this couldn't be guaranteed. But just saying.

SiobhanSharpe · 12/06/2021 22:08

Have often holidayed in Portugal in the eastern Algarve, very close to the Spanish border and Guadiana river.
The weather is warm in lateOtciber to early November, certainly warm or even hit rnough ro sit out in

The weather is warm in late October to early November, sometimes even hot during the day. Very pleasant to sit out in but there are also odd rainy days too.

SiobhanSharpe · 12/06/2021 22:15

Hoppinggreen would that be near Ayamonte?

minipie · 12/06/2021 22:15

Not Europe but would suggest Morocco, around Marrakech. We have been in October and were sunbathing. Also been in December and it was lovely and sunny in the day (but very cold morning and evening).

HelpfulBelle · 12/06/2021 22:32

We went to Benalmadena with DC during Oct half term a couple of years ago; it was still warm and the outdoor pools were very pleasant. Highly recommended.

If you want hot rather than warm and you want it guaranteed, then I suggest you head further afield OP. I've been to Cyprus in the last week of Oct twice. The first time we had a glorious week of 28 degrees every day. The following year was much more mixed - low 20s some days, high teens with grey clouds and rain other days. In other words, you could get lucky, but equally it could rain and be grey the entire week if you're not. If you want hot, I'd suggest Sharm el Sheikh, Dubai, Oman, Maldives, etc.

@SiobhanSharpe

Hoppinggreen would that be near Ayamonte?
Yes it is, we have an apartment in Isla Canela
cptartapp · 13/06/2021 17:01

Had hot weather in Rome and Barcelona in October. I think Seville averages 26c too.
Fantastic city.

SJaneS49 · 13/06/2021 17:36

Southern Spain or Portugal - how about Seville or Tavira?

Tbh - though hopefully we’ll be on less shaky ground then, I don’t think I’d book anything till right at the last minute. More expensive for sure but saves the potential hassle of moving everything on to 22.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 13/06/2021 17:38

We had a very warm and sunny break in late October in Venice. Almost warm enough to swim in the sea. Otherwise Cyprus also nice at that time of year.

User27aw · 13/06/2021 17:46

Thanks for these. We were considering flights to Faro, Seville or Gibraltar but wasn't sure on the weather. Sounds at though it might be ok. Some other areas to consider. Thanks

We wouldn't book anything until last minute when we know where if anywhere we can go. Can also look at the weather forecast for the fortnight ahead as well then.

Seville, Cádiz and Jerez are lovely.
I got burnt in Seville in February once and I don’t burn easily!!

The Canary Islands have lovely weather right through the winter, so October would certainly be very warm. Lanzarote is a very pretty Island with art work by César Manrique all over it. There is some kind of legal covenant that prevents any buildings on the island over two stories and that makes it rather nice too.

RaspberryCoulis · 13/06/2021 21:00

We've been to the Algarve in the Scottish half term in October, which is generally before the English one. I'd say 80% of the time we had fab weather, hot and sunny, shorts and t-shirt weather. We did have some torrential rain some days though, and it's often windy.

thisplaceisweird · 13/06/2021 21:03

Another rec for south of Spain. Cadiz and Málaga are lovely cities, lots to do and you have the beach. Won't feel super hot but will be a lovely warm break if you're going from the UK

AppleDumplin · 13/06/2021 21:05

I've been to the algarve a few times in October half term- always had nice warm weather, certainly warm enough for shorts and t shirt and to sit on the beach!

I would pick somewhere with a heated pool though- my kids couldn't stay in the unheated ones for long!

Secret12345 · 13/06/2021 21:08

We are in the Charente and it’s nice here at that time. Saying that we always drive down to Spain in the October holidays. Benidorm or torrvieja normally. Lanzarote is also nice at this time.
