Anyone else still hopeful for overseas this summer

We are booked to go to Greece for the last 2 weeks of July. I'm sort of resigned it won't happen but the optimistic part of my brain is telling me there could be significant additions to the green list or the system could be overhauled for the main holiday season.

Anyone else doing this sort of wishful thinking?

I'm dreaming of Sicily in the autumn, and will go if I can and if tourists are welcome ...

@GiantKitten

(We are both double vacced but 🤷🏼‍♀️)
If you are double vaccinated then you are ok if green or amber but not red unfortunately
Hairbrush123 · 09/06/2021 23:49

I am booked to visit the USA next month however I am very doubtful it’ll happen. DP and I are eyeing up Gibraltar in lieu of the USA if it doesn’t go ahead however I don’t want to pay crazy money for flights, a PCR test and possibly self isolation if it turns amber for somewhere I’m not really crazy about visiting.

I feel incredibly sorry for the aviation industry. I really do wonder how they are going to survive? I think France’s traffic light system for international travel reflects more fairly on those who are fully vaccinated and their government do not villainize those who want to travel to an amber country for leisure if they’re fully inoculated. Not really any restrictions on green list countries.

I've finally given up on our planned holiday to Tenerife in August and have been extremely fortunate to find a cottage in Devon. Feeling
pretty gutted about it. I was so looking to going abroad 😢

99victoria · 10/06/2021 23:29

We're planning to visit Greece at the beginning of July (one of the islands). We had booked for 10 days but our flights have been cancelled twice - fairly confident we will get there now but only for a week.
We have our vaccine certificates on the NHS app, and I've booked an amber testing package (£500 for the 2 of us for Day 2, day 8 and day 5 Test to Release). I have sourced appropriate insurance and we will do the necessary quarantine when we return (hopefully only 6 days 🤞)

BritWifeinUSA · 11/06/2021 05:32

Still hopeful my mum will get here this year.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 11/06/2021 07:48

Me. I've booked Crete for early July and Mallorca for last August. Yesterday I made a backup booking to Tenerife for the end of July in case Crete is too early to make the Green list. Hopefully 1 or 2 will come off.

The French traffic light system seems more sensible to me. I cannot understand how come countries like France and USA are easing restrictions for the doubly vaccinated. They will also have to consider variants. I don't really understand why we are being made to think travel is unthinkable. The government are still not considering those of us with family members abroad. I am hoping to travel because of this, actually, I am thinking of travelling on amber.

SprayedWithDettol · 11/06/2021 08:26

We’ve cancelled Crete in July sadly. I’m not sure we will be welcome with the upsurge in Covid cases in the U.K. It’s disappointing but nothing we can do about it.

The French (and I think the US) are considering variants but as well as that they have to consider the needs of commerce/industry/the population...I think the risk vs. benefit calculations are perhaps being done differently in those countries to they way they are possibly being done in the UK.

TheGonnagle · 11/06/2021 11:05

No overseas for us this year, and I normally book 2/3 breaks a year. It’s just too subject to change for me. I don’t want to spend every waking moment checking to see if we will be able to go/need to rush home. UK only this year.

We’re in Lancs. there’s no ban 🤷‍♀️

BarefootHippieChick · 11/06/2021 11:39

Not this year, it just feels like far too much hassle. Last year we were on tenterhooks right up until the last minute as to whether we would be allowed to go on our holiday (Portugal - and not allowed). I don't want that again this year, plus the extra money with testing, kids obviously aren't yet vaccinated, plus they'll be super disappointed again if things fall through last minute. So saving our money and keeping everything crossed for 2 holidays next year 🤞

@GalesThisMorning

Me. American citizen with tickets booked to America for July. They are fully flexible, and I am trying to limit everyone's expectations, but secretly I think we'll make it
You're permitted to re-enter the US as a US citizen.

@Mareofwesttown Not a ban, but 10 days of self-isolation when you’re only going for a week…? Just hoping things will have eased by September

Well I was hopeful that we would get to Greece on 16th July, but our flights have just been cancelled.

I'm not hopeful for overseas at all but am praying that we can still travel in the UK in the school holidays. Not being able to would be really shit, whilst I don't see overseas as such a significant loss when it's been obvious from the get go it's an outside chance.
Pootle40 · 11/06/2021 18:45

@GiantKitten jersey just turned whole of Scotland red so that's us having to cancel now as we were going in 3 weeks time.

Just hoping things will have eased by September“

Isn’t that the same everywhere though, if you’re going anywhere other than a green list country? Not specific to Lancashire.

Which is why the furthest afield we’re going is, hopefully, Scotland in September.
After the garden, Scotland feels decadently abroad and exotic 🤣

LaCerbiatta · 11/06/2021 20:40

Portugal will need to go on the red list for us not to go in July But it's not just holiday, it's seeing family as well.

We don't mind the quarantine too much and the tests cost is not that different from green list to Amber.

Jersey is in the common travel area though so people wouldn't anticipate 10 days self isolation to go there when no restrictions coming back to the uk from there. It's not an 'international' destination so not in the Uk traffic light system
twilightermummy · 11/06/2021 21:13

Sorry to hear that **ShellieEllie. Such short notice! Who were you flying with? I’m heading to the Greek islands soon so this has made me nervous!

AssumptaFitzgerald1884 · 11/06/2021 21:35

I’ve got 2 weeks in Turkey booked at the end of August.

laughs hysterically

Not fucking happening is it 😒

No. You have misunderstood. These are Jersey’s restrictions on visitors from different parts of the UK. Places which still have low infection rates are unrestricted (eg Shropshire & Wales)
