Anyone else still hopeful for overseas this summer

We are booked to go to Greece for the last 2 weeks of July. I'm sort of resigned it won't happen but the optimistic part of my brain is telling me there could be significant additions to the green list or the system could be overhauled for the main holiday season.

Anyone else doing this sort of wishful thinking?

@Nataliafalka

I think that we're going to stick to our amber holiday and just plan to be home afterwards. We'll do the day 5 test to release. yes, it's expensive but we think it's worth it.

Same. We don't even have the 5 day release in Scotland but boys are happy to stay home and garden for 10 days to have 11 days sun and pool away from the misery of the last 15 months.

I now don't want to go on our August Majorca holiday, carried forward from last year. Too many things to go wrong and it's the week before DS is due back to school for an exam year so I don't want him to miss any school through Track and Trace or an Amber status.
Unfortunately the other family that we're meant to be going with is more gung ho. I'm finding it all very stressful.

Hoping to go to France last 2 weeks of July. Even if it's amber, we will go as quarantine is not a problem for us. We will also be double jabbed and have french passports.

@Chewbecca

No, can’t be doing with the stress of watching lists, airports, extra requirements etc. We’re going on one of the cruise staycations instead.

I do have my fingers crossed for Florida in December, a trip we rescheduled from last year.

I saw those and thought it would be a perfect way to try a cruise and liked the look of the ones that went from Liverpool up the west coast of Scotland to Orkney and Shetland.

However:

Scotland is not allowing cruise ships to doc until all areas go to level 1. Never mind.

But I'm not paying £££ for an overcrowded overpriced UK holiday, so its abroad or Costa del Back Garden and day trips for us.

We have a European city break booked for late August but for that to go ahead, we need it to be on the green list as DP can't self isolate due to work and we need the country in question to lift it's ban on UK holiday makers. If both of these don't happen, we can cancel without penalty up to no more than a week or two before.

The next thing we might look at is Malta in early October, but again that will either be a package or something we can cancel or change easily.

Yeah, I am thinking of the UK cruise as the cruise ship itself being the destination, not the ports.

I’ve got flights to Spain booked at the end of June for a business trip but with a holiday added on.
I’m pretty relaxed about going/not going really. I am hoping to but if things change and I can’t I will be a bit disappointed but it’s fair enough.
I have just had 2 business trips to Prague and Portugal cancelled though but that’s due to events being cancelled, shame but what can you do?

Not planning anything although DP mentioned the other week if restrictions allow he might go and visit his parents in France later in the year and if that happens I'll probably go with him.

I’ve booked UK holidays for June and July and would love to go abroad in September but won’t book anything until the week before.

@RosesAndHellebores

Planning to spend August at our home in France. Flexible chunnel tickets booked. We can both arrange to work from home on our return if necessary.

If you're happy to quarantine when you get home, I don't think you'll have any issues at all. France is open again for UK visitors and restaurants are fully open from today.

We had to travel to France when only travel for essential reasons was allowed. We did actually have an acceptable reason, but after a cursory check of our passports and covid test results by the French before getting onto the shuttle, we weren't checked again at any point. We just drove off the train and were on our way.

Best of luck, am sure it'll be fine. Oh and the weather is currently fantastic!

Sorry, not sure if this has already been said but, Tui have a number of Amber list countries on their homepage which specifies where they are still flying out to. I had heard horror stories of people having their holiday cancelled because it’s on the Amber list. Anyway, Tui state they are going to Greek islands, Malta, St Lucia and I believe the Spanish islands.

Nope but holidaying in the UK is not a holiday for me. The weather is too unpredictable then even if its hot places are rammed. Urgh I think we will be staying at home. Such a shame as we have family in Switzerland and my teens flew out there last summer for the week and were planning the same this year but it is just not going to happen.

Not abroad exactly, but we’re booked to Jersey in mid-September.
Before the May relaxation of lockdown restrictions they had been classifying different parts of the UK as green/amber/red and requiring different lengths of quarantine.
Currently it just says
If you've been fully vaccinated in UK, Republic of Ireland, Guernsey or Isle of Man you'll need a test on arrival but won't need to isolate
September is a long way away though…

I'm booked for September. We could go as we can isolate on return but have decided to wait and see. We think it's 50/50

We didn't book anything for this year after last year's holiday was cancelled/refunded. I'm not hopeful for holidays this year and won't be booking anything. Keeping positive for 2022 though!

Just be careful with that as they have a growing number of red areas in the uk which will require isolation. I won't be double vaccinated (hubby is) so on the basis jersey have turned Scotland amber (requiring 5 days isolation when you arrive) we will be cancelling our holiday which was due early July.

I never was, but hoped my mum would be able to come.

haven't seen her in over 2 years, doubtful if she can travel next month which means she'll be missing 3 big birthdays.

Those happy to go on amber, I’d holiday insurance even valid if it’s been advised against travel? That would concern me.

No. I don't want to spend two weeks checking the govt web site to see if anything has changed.

I'll save the money until things settle down. In the meantime we'll play tennis, cycle and eat ice cream at home.
