What to do in the Los Angeles area with a child?

Thinking of visiting Los Angeles with dd to see a dear old friend who recently moved there. We would probably go during Easter break, so am thinking ahead about making plans.

Besides Disneyland and the beach, would like to hear about fun/interesting things to do with children in the area - would appreciate any suggestions for museums, parks, theatre, events, tours, etc. Also would like to know of any websites that might help with planning the trip, or any general tips that could make the trip enjoyable.

DD will just be 7 at the time of the trip...if we go.

Los Angeles, as you are no doubt aware, is vast.

Where abouts will you be in LA?. This will have some bearing on what you want to do in terms of distances travelled.
