Have booked Le Garangeoire for the summer, and I know that there are various threads about it here, but some are years old, so I thought I'd start a new one.

I have some specific questions - can you walk / cycle to nearby villages? Are there good restaurants nearby or are they mostly mussels and chips (which are also good, but not 10 nights in a row!) Will the DSs, who will be 12 and 13 by then, find things to do?

Any information you can give me would be gratefully received! We have been to the Vendee before, but the site we were at had a tiny pool. Hopefully this one will be better.

You need Cod or MartianBishop for this IIRC

It is a bit of a walk fron the site into the town, but you could deffo cycle. I don't think there is a resturant in the village of St Julien des landes. there are lots of resturants in the towns along the coast. And they are not all moulle et frite.

In St Gille there is a fantastic little place just back off the main road that runs along the harbour, it is just after you come over the bridge that has the caroselle near it, and the resturant is in the church square. It specilaised in fresh grilled sardines, and is excellent. Can't remember the name of the place.

by the church on this map

In fact there are a number of nice places to eat around this square. And watch the world go by. there is an evening market which is fun, and at the end of the harbour there is a tiny little funfair

What's the restaurant on site like MB? We are going too 9on the back of MN recommendations). The place we stayed in last summer had a great restaurant plus a good Spar nearby for BBQ supplies - hoping La G will be as good!

MB, thanks very much. I have saved this thread and I'll print it off nearer the time.

Not been, as I've never been lucky enough to bag a pitch. You will have to ask Cod. She stayed there this summer.

there is a small supermarket in the village. there is a bigger one in Mothe Achard, about 5 minutes drive. there is a fabbo, massive hypermarche in le Sable D'ollone, which I lurve and is nice and cool if you get roasting hot weather
