It takes about an hour from Newark by minibus/limo. Slightly faster from JFK, but a lot depends on exactly where in Manhattan you want to be, and whether you want to go by bus or not. There's not a huge difference really.

We went to newark recently and it took half an hour in a cab to downtown manhattan hotel and was about 60 dollars. HTH

Last week JFK to e33rd street took about an hour at about 7 on a thursday evening.Took the same coming out on the saturday afternoon but the cab driver said traffic was heavy because it was Veterans' weekend.
Any use?

I think the fare was about $45.(it's a flat rate and includes the toll)

Flying into one airport and leaving from another is going to be very expensive.
What airlines are you looking at?. Have you tried the airlines websites directly?.

Would suggest Newark over JFK; JFK is a rotten airport to get both to and from!.

It's also quite straight forward to get from Newwark in Manhatten by train. Takes about 20 minutes and is very cheap. The station is in the airport.

I've flown into Newark and out of JFK once when I visited Manhattan and the transfers were very similar, about half an hour. No problems with either airport, either.
Have fun!

I have flown out of both airports and last time JFK. Got the bus to 42nd st grand central and cost about 15$ return, if you pay an extra 5$ they will take you to your hotel.

As for hotels we found grand hyatt at grand central good and very good spot to walk everywhere. Incidentaly when are you going cause we went in feb and it was -18.Not good with a 10mth old !!

In past pre kids life I have checked bags into Newark then caught bus back into NYC for a few hours last minute shopping! There is a fairly decent bus service btw Newark and the Port Authority bus station - mid town - don't think it took long - 30 mins ish?
