Isle of Wight - day trips

Following on from the other thread seeking recommendations for places to eat on the Isle of Wight.

Can i ask for suggestions for days out - i'm well aware that we may need to book in advance.

DD's are 8 and 11 - we are staying in the Ryde area for 2 weeks.

I don't want to waste money on pre-buying tickets for attractions that may be too young (Blackgang Chine i suspect)

Thankyou

Culver Down is a lovely walk too. Parking easy up there, just put in the postcode of the Culver Haven Inn. There is a pub and ice cream shop up there, beautiful views

You definitely won't need to pre book the Donkey Sanctury.

Also, Yarmouth Castle is a nice little place for a mooch for 30/40 mins but it's not a whole day out or anything, only really worth going if you have other things to do in Yarmouth the same day

Headon Warren makes for a lovely walk too. Near the Needles/Alum bay:

Watching with interest. It's been a few years since we last went and fingers crossed we are going in half term

if weather is good - book a beach hut for day on small hope beach

your own fossil hunt on beach at Compton

Dinosaur museum

Mini golf Shanklin sea front

boat ride from Ventnor

@shank2 renting a beach hut is a great idea! Do you know what the day rate is roughly? There doesn’t seem to be much info on their website without making an enquiry

shank2 · 21/05/2021 15:01

could be way out but I used to think about 25? comes with two deckchairs - they used to have a phone number for the ones on small hope beach - on a wet day they can be fun

Oh wow, what a bargain! I was expecting it to be a lot more. We’ll definitely look into it one day then, thanks!

We went to the Isle of Wight last august. The Alum Bay attractions were packed, huge queue for the chairlifts, we walked down instead. The Needles battery was not busy though as you had to prebook it is a lovely walk up there. Amazing views on a clear day.

Does anyone have any suggestions for indoor activities for adults (no kids)?
Weather was looking glorious for next week so we’d planned all outdoor days out but now it’s looking rather wet and chilly. We’re definitely not the type of people to enjoy walks in the rain!
Any ideas?
