British Airways

Has anyone managed to get a refund from British Airways instead of a voucher (for flights only)?

We can't go on holiday as our destination is on the Amber list and our insurance won't cover us as the trip was for leisure.

I've gone on the BA website and there is only the option to request a voucher. I don't want a sodding voucher.

Any tips on getting a actual refund?

What were the T&C's on your ticket when you bought it OP?

I have no idea to be honest. I suspect I can only get a voucher unless they cancel the flight but was just wondering if anyone had any tips on ways around this. The website says you can't request a refund if you have already requested a voucher @GrandDuchessRomanov

Well then it depends on the T&C's. We have flights booked to the USA with BA but did so happy to take the voucher.

The only advice I can give you without knowing the T&C's is DO NOT cancel until they do or you will lose it all.

If you ring up they will process a refund. I think they're trying to discourage it because of long wait times on the phone and hoping no one can be bothered and just click the link online for a voucher!

We got our refund processed last year by communicating with them via Twitter. (Actually set up an account specifically for the purpose.) Flight wasn't cancelled but it was to a country where FCO were advising against travel.

Yes, definitely call. Be ultra nice and see what they can ‘suggest’. You might well find as a pp says they offer a refund.

Honestly though. I don’t want refunds. I just want to go and remember countries can move to green over the next few months.

Late to the party but I got refunds from BA last year. Flights were booked before the pandemic started, so the T&C's stated I was entitled to a refund if the flights were cancelled. Every single time I called - and this was still 2020 but they quickly got into 'voucher mode' - I was offered a voucher and told a refund wasn't possible. I politely quoted their own T&C's and/or asked to speak to the manager, in each case the money was in my account within the week. You need to be really assertive on the phone and know their T&C's by heart basically.

As your flights aren't cancelled (presumably), I very, very much doubt you'll be getting anywhere with your refund request. It's you who's choosing not to fly, not BA failing to provide the service.

Yes got one last year (Avios points booking but still a refund). As PP said, call them, even if you have to hold for ages. They were very helpful.

We got a refund promptly every time. But our flights were cancelled. It wasn’t that we chose not to fly. I have booked some flights to an Amber destination later this summer and if we choose not to fly and both legs still run then I will only be entitled to a voucher.
