He hasn’t really given any sort of indication where he’s heard that from? Not really a question but a bit of hope for those wanting to travel to the US.

I really hope it's true.

The reopening of the US/UK 'air corridor' has been rumoured for late June for some time, but so far it's just a rumour ... I REALLY hope it's true - DH needs to go and see his DM and we would really like to be able to take our holiday to the US in August.

Hairbrush123 · 07/05/2021 17:21

He was wrong! The USA isn’t on the green list. I wonder where he got that rumour from Confused. He was so far off with his predictions. I’m meant to be travelling to the USA in late July so I’m hoping it’ll be added by then. Fingers crossed!

The green list is being reviewed every three weeks so may well be added before the main holidays. However, just because a country is on the green list doesn’t mean you can go there. For example, Singapore’s borders are currently closed and I expect them to stay that way for a while. Also, they set their own entry criteria and many countries will probably only accept full vaccinated travellers - that’s both doses and two to three weeks wait afterwards. People in their 30s being vaccinated under the normal list won’t have the required protection in time for the main school holidays.

I read that too. Apparently Singapore has travel bubbles with countries which involves minimal self isolation. Would love to see it extend to the UK as Singapore is great! I know Israel will only allow fully vaccinated travellers. Well I count there are three more reviews until I go away so hopefully I can go! (With the US’ approval, of course).

Actually the border here never closed, except the land border with Canada. You just can’t enter directly from the UK unless you are a US citizen, green card holder or spouse of a USC or GC holder or parents of a minor USC or GC holder. Mexico has been the most common route to get here from Europe for those who can’t enter directly, 14 nights in Mexico is a nice addition to a trip anyway.

My mother is planning to visit me here soon. It helps that she’s retired and has the time to spend 14 days elsewhere if needed.

I live in Singapore. Sadly no travel bubbles at all except one tentative with Hong Kong which I suspect will not happen. No tourists allowed here at all and even as a resident I need special government permission (which isn't guaranteed) to get into the country if I leave, then 21 day strict quarantine. I'll be surprised if anything opens here before mid 2022 more broadly - but I'll be very happy if it does!! Haven't been home for 2 years and really missing everyone.

We are desperate to go to the States to see my FiL who is 89. We were due to go last year at Easter but obviously that got cancelled. We would love to go in September but are not holding our breath.

bert3400 · 08/05/2021 06:02

@BritWifeinUSA that's what my son had to do . Two weeks A/L in a resort ....sound idealic but he was bored to death ...solo travelling isn't that much fun but he got to the US Grin

Well yes, that's true, but as US citizens who live in the UK we aren't allowed to leave the UK for 'leisure' purposes, which includes visiting family members unless they are ill/dying/deceased! So 'open' border or not, our citizenship means nothing and we still can't go.

I read somewhere that Singapore has travel bubbles Confused. Perhaps it wasn’t Singapore. Never mind! I did read they plan to vaccinate everyone by the end of the year there though. How is the vaccination programme there?

We are doing pretty well with vaccination, so that's good. Really small outbreak recently of 40 cases, mostly asymptomatic - but we have gone back to some stricter measures for 3 weeks as a result. I don't think travel will open for a long time though - it's very cautious here...
StarcourtMall · 08/05/2021 10:47

There is another guy on Twitter who always disagrees with Paul Charles and says he has been involved in meetings with the US authorities and believes US/UK travel will start late June or early July. That sounds reasonably realistic. Also Virgin Atlantic are cancelling all their US flights up to end of June, so maybe they have some hints of what is happening too?
We have a US trip booked for August, but I have to pay for the accommodation at the end of June so I just have my fingers crossed for now.

Hairbrush123 · 08/05/2021 17:29

@StarcourtMall that sounds extremely promising. I’m due to fly to the US end of July so hopefully that means I can go! I no longer believe a word of what Paul Charles says. He’s lost all credibility to me after that tweet. Who is this guy on Twitter? I can remember Biden said something about independence day being a truly free day if we (Americans) do our part and get the vaccine.
