Caribbean at Christmas

We’re planning a family holiday to the Caribbean at Christmas to celebrate my 50th birthday.

They’ll be 5 of us - me and Dh, 2 adult children and Dd3 aged 14.

We’ve been to Barbados before and loved it. Not sure if we should go back there or try one of the other islands.

We would like to relax and sit by the pool but it would be nice to have something to do and see as well.

Any recommendations please?

Will Barbados have recovered from the volcanic eruptions by then?

Just looked this up, looks terrible! Would you avoid Barbados for that reason?

I'm not sure how COVID has impacted but did the Dominican Republic at Christmas and it was lovely. Lots of lazy pool and beach days but also trips out to beauty spots, shopping, the usual water sports etc. I found it a nice mix

I would certainly be wary, but I don't know how long these things tend to last. Might be worth asking on the TA forum where there will be local experts?
