Hi

I've got a holiday booked in august and I'm just wondering if any one else has a holiday booked? Do you think we will get to go? Oh I hope so! You read all the supposed plans like need a COVID test or be vaccinated!

Hello, were supposed to be going to Croatia for the last week of August. It was postponed from last year. Really hope it goes ahead this time round!

EileenGC · 20/04/2021 22:35

I’m pretty sure you will be able to travel. It won’t be hassle-free though, you’ll most likely need multiple tests, maybe quarantines and/or other restrictions, any of which can change at any given point between leaving your house and getting back. I for one will be going, but I don’t mind a bit of uncertainty.

AgeLikeWine · 20/04/2021 22:41

Yes, foreign travel will be possible, but only to certain countries and only for people who can either prove they have been vaccinated or have tested negative, or both. The U.K. government is planning to offer all adults a vaccine by July, so it’s very likely to be a case of ‘no jab, no travel’.

AnyFucker · 20/04/2021 22:42

I reckon not

Normandy144 · 20/04/2021 22:46

I really hope so. I have a holiday booked for July and have all my fingers and toes crossed. I can't see.how this year when we are in much better shape regards the vaccine etc that they can penalise us. The ramifications for the travel industry will be monumental if governments don't do all they can to help us travel.

Justmuddlingalong · 20/04/2021 22:52

DP is convinced we'll be sipping cocktails on the beach in the Caribbean, come July...

I've bought a tent.

CarmelBeach · 20/04/2021 22:53

I don't think so, sorry.

The majority of foreign countries - especially Europe where most people will head to - only class you as vaccinated after both doses plus a 3 week waiting period. Which could mean most adults in the UK won’t be able to call themselves fully vaccinated by July.
MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 20/04/2021 23:37

Good luck

katie20202 · 21/04/2021 11:26

I'm a bit sceptical because you hear the rumours that you need two doses of the vaccine and then a negative covid swab but I'm being optimistic and hoping I will be on that beach haha

We own a house in Spain that we rent out for holidays, and we're getting quite a few enquiries for 2022 already (mostly big family groups). I'm wondering whether a lot of people might just skip going abroad this year because of the uncertainty and focus on booking something really nice for next year.

paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 12:00

I think it's unlikely tbh. And I hope that they don't open up travel too soon because it will set us back hugely if we do.

katie20202 · 21/04/2021 12:14

I might just see how things go and change it to next year!

The negative Covid test will 100% be a requirement. It now depends on whether governments work together on making the price accessible for a vast majority of the population, or it’s on each individual to calculate if him and his family can actually afford £100 tests a piece for everyone, for both the out and inbound flights.

astuz · 21/04/2021 18:53

I am so hoping we can go somewhere. I'm kicking myself for not going last year. We could have gone if we'd got away as soon as schools broke up, but we dithered, thinking the situation would gradually get better over the 6 weeks holidays, but they starting shutting everywhere down around mid-August!

I love travelling but for years it was a waste of time going on too much of an adult holiday because my kids were young, then just as they were getting to an age where we could go further afield, I got breast cancer, so couldn't go anywhere for a year (and I'm always worried it's going to come back), then COVID hit, and my oldest DD will be getting to an age where she won't want to come with us soon! I feel like time is running out for me to take them to all the places we want to go to with them. It really gets my back up when people say that holidays abroad aren't that important - I can see their point to an extent, but I live for travelling, it's the sole reason why I work as hard as I do.

QuentininQuarantino · 21/04/2021 19:07

I'm about 90% sure that yes we will, but obviously not with the same ease as in pre-covid times.

France is trialling vaccine passports at the moment, Spain is lifting its state of alarm soon, there are still three months to go until the summer season.

QuentininQuarantino · 21/04/2021 19:11

The Valencian leader (along with others) is lobbying for the EU to pay for free PCR tests for tourists who are yet to be vaccinated.

Valencia and the Balearics are in favour of the European Union's digital green certificate, which is due to be operational in June. This will be "a certificate of vaccination and mobility that will be completed with a PCR". "If vaccines are free, the PCR tests should be as well, in order that people can travel again."

I don't think British voters would be very happy seeing all of Europe allowed to holiday and them not, especially considering how far ahead in the vaccines we are, and so I think there will be pressure to allow some form of travel.

oftenanumpty · 21/04/2021 19:18

I think so but it'll come with many hurdles to jump through and lots of anxiety/ mixed messaging until nearer the summer. We managed to go abroad twice last year. It was angst ridden in the weeks before but as soon as we got off the plane it was incredible.

MarshaBradyo · 21/04/2021 19:20

I think so but with tests and maybe vaccination, and long waits at airport.

wonderstuff · 21/04/2021 19:26

I've got Florida booked for August, I wanted to book before flight prices went through the roof. I wouldn't book anything that wasn't refundable or moveable, things can change quite quickly.

At the moment it looks like some travel will be possible from May, very few countries will be accessible without having to quarantine on return.

Personally I think theres a good chance UK government will let me go to the US, I'm not as confident about the US letting Brits in. I'm thinking there's about 80% chance I'll be going. But who knows at the moment.

kickergoes · 21/04/2021 19:28

Yes I do. But I'm expecting to have to pay for PCR tests and will be praying they are negative!

MrsPsmalls · 21/04/2021 19:31

I don't thinks so. I think figures here will be low, but higher pretty much everywhere else by then and the govt will not want to import variants. There are not enough quarantine hotels even if people were prepared to pay for them, So whilst I think it may well be allowed by other countries the govt here will make it pretty much impossible.

kickergoes · 21/04/2021 19:37

@MrsPsmalls you don't have to quarantine in a hotel for every country even now, my husband flew in from a European country just 3 weeks ago. (He did have to isolate for 10 days, but I expect that will be removed on countries with low enough numbers soon if I were to guess).

Tal45 · 21/04/2021 20:16

We have our second jab booked for early July so really hoping so!!!

newnortherner111 · 21/04/2021 20:28

I think it depends on where you want to go on holiday to. I think some will be allowed.

Unfortunately not where I would like to go.
