Anyone been to Santa Ponsa? What is it like? Having booked a holiday for next year DH is getting cold feet. Will it be all Brits abroad or is there any local colour? Or any other recs for Majorca.

TIA

Thanks. It does look lovely but DH is a worrier. I am just so excited to be going somewhere hot after years of rain in this country.

Don't know anything about Santa Ponsa, but rented a house in Soller in the north of the island a couple of years ago. If it's local colour you are after Soller is really great. It has a very Spanish feel - daily market, lots of lovely old streets. Best of all, from my son's point of view, there is an old tram that runs from the town to the port and you can also take the old train through the mountains to Palma (great experience even if you are not a train enthusiast). Haven't stayed anywhere else on the island, but we rented a car and it seemed to me that much of the island is taken up with huge resorts where visitors are practically penned in - a huge contrast to where we were staying. Would love to go back - very jealous that you are planning a trip to the island.

Hi, we've an apartment in Santa Ponsa. Great for kids.

Make sure you find Burlington Berties on the main street up a ramp - its got a creche attached to the bar and a terrace to sit on. The girls who look after the kids are wonderful. We don't tend to see our children until its time to leave.

SP is about 10 mins in taxi to magalluf where the water parks and go-carts are.

The beach is beautiful and really clean.

In general it is a "touristy" resort but is more based around families with children or couples rather than lager louts. It has some fantastic restaurants.

You can catch buses to Palma and the surrounding areas if you fancy something a bit more authentic.

Anything else, just ask!

Thanks everyone. DH is coming around to the fact that the sort of holiday he really wants is way out of our price range and wouldn't be great with kids. We'll have that one some day in the future. Santa Ponsa sounds just fine for now.

We usually hire a car and that way you get the best of both if the "touristy" thing gets too much.

Valdemossa is lovely for a day out as is Soller suggested by Lil and they have more of a spanish feel.

Try googling "santa ponsa scene" its a publication issued by DPT and will give you details of whats happening on the island when you go.

My mum lives out there. How old are your kids? There's a fair amount to do for school age ones.
