Hi there

I'm going with a friend for a spa weekend and was wondering if anyone could recommend things to do around there. Is Markeaton Park worth a visit?

Also what was the hotel like? Would you recommend a particular suite?

I think we went to a wedding there once (very nice), didn't stay the night though.

Markeaton Park is a lovely day out for the dcs and you, wouldn't bother if the dcs aren't with you though .

If you are childfree - the legendary Derby Mile (drinking!) is the whole of Ashbourne Road from Markeaton Park all the way into Derby and Sadlergate (a road in Derby) has some veeerrry nice shops!

I live about 20 minutes away and if you let me know what sort of things you enjoy doing, I may be able to point you in the right direction...

Markeaton has lovely gardens too but can be overrun with screaming brats lovely children .

I would be tempted to (weather permitting), have a stroll around M Park, walk down Ashbourne Road catching lunch on the way and wander round the shops in Derby.

Have a lovely time anyway xx

We got married there, was lovely, but was 11 years ago!! Derby's new shopping centre is now open... it looks fab for a bit of retail therepy.

my friend is into crafts - does Markeaton park have anything worth seeing in this line? She also wants to do a bit of Christmas shopping, but not at a big place like the Trafford Centre. I think Sandlergate might be what she's looking for, is that right Wisteria?

craft village

It's Sadlergate, although is mostly lovely clothes and shoes [wishing I could afford to shop there emoticon], but Derby has a fairly decent shopping centre anyway. If you have a car and don't mind a bit of a drive then you can head straight down to the Matlock area on the A6 and there's all sorts of crafty places there. Cromford is quite good and Matlock itself.
