Lake Garda in august and mosquitos
1sunnyday23 · 10/03/2021 10:42
I had really really bad reaction to mosquitoes in italy by venice and whilst we loved Italy we are so scared to go back!
Has anyone been in august to lake Garda and what are mosquitoes like at that time of year? Thanks

Weirdly I've never been bothered by mosquitoes at lake garda, I probably wouldn't sleep with the window open but I don't have to smother myself in insect repellent like I do in some places

Most of Italy is humid in summer and you're going to get mosquitoes. Oddly, last summer was less mozzie ridden than usual.
The most effective repellants are a Raid Night and Day plug in and the real toxic DEET stuff (Superdrug orange and black can- Boots do one too but the Superdrug is much cheaper and has same ingredients)

I spent two weeks in Lake Garda in August a few years ago, never had a single bite! None of us did. We were on the South.

I usually get eaten alive and lake Garda wasn't the worst place for it. Take some good bug spray for evenings

We were there for a week in late August 2019 and don't recall any problems with mosquitos. Usually react quite badly to their bites, so I think I'd remember.

We went last summer and I got bitten a fair amount, not quite as much as I did in Umbria the summer before though!

I go to Italy every year in August and found Garda not to be as bad as other areas. Venice and surrounding areas are horrific.. it's all that marshland and stagnant water!
