Malta or Turkey in October

Considering going away for the October half term this year.

Wondering whether it’s warm enough to go in the pool etc?

I've been to turkey on 14th october the weather was so lovely. Definitely warm enough for pool.

Definitely not warm enough in Malta in October. We went a couple of years ago in September and it was bloody freezing. Have been to Turkey multiple times in September though and it's been lovely and hot. I also think Malta is massively overrated - we wouldn't go again.

Cyprus is lovely in October too. Turkey def warm still!

Because Oct half-term is right at the end of Oct its hard to be guaranteed warm weather anywhere in Europe, but the safest bests IME are Cyprus and the Canaries. You do still need a heated pool though. We stayed somewhere in Cyprus one Oct with an unheated pool and it was bloody freezing! Ditto the Canaries at new year. So if you want to swim in a pool outside of the summer months, make sure it's heated!

no way on earth would i ever go to malta in sept/oct. we had flooding, mini tornadoes, pool was closed, it was awful. several of the bars by the sea were flooded. our windows got pelted with rain from the sea. never again. it was also very busy and more expensive than spain and built up.

Another vote for Cyprus

We did Malta mid October 2019 for the second time and it was wonderful. Fabulous Weather. love it..

Tal45 · 07/03/2021 19:28

I didn't like Malta that much, much preferred Turkey x

We went to Cyprus for October half term a few years ago and the weather was beautiful. I'll echo what a pp has said about heated pool though, our villa had an unheated pool and it was chilly! (The kids didn't seem to mind, though).

We used to go to the Algarve in Portugal each October Half term. It was always a lovely climate - we did used to book places with a heated pool - and it was warm (hot at times) enough to use it.

Another vote for Cyprus but weather can be unpredictable. We went in the last October week and had everything from sun, sun/cloud and rain. A drive up the mountains meant temperature dropping to 7 degrees.

We looked for a hotel with heated outdoor and indoor pool and spa plus used the time for sightseeing. October is not the time of year to go for a full blown beach holiday. But it is a great country.

Yes, Cyprus can be lovely or it can be a mix and it's always much colder in the mountains, but they're lovely for a day trip.

We've had two Oct half-term holidays to there. The first one was 28 degrees every day and sunny - like British summer at its best - absolutely amazing. The second one wasn't as nice - a mixed bag of sun, clouds, wind and rain, so much more disappointing. If you want guaranteed lovely weather at that time of year I think you have to go further afield - maybe Oman or somewhere like that?

Second comments that weather in many European places can be unpredictable at half term.

I've been to the Canaries Oct half term and have glorious 7 days sunshine and another time it's rained for most of the week.

I think you need to go further a field to get guaranteed sun e.g Dubai, Cape Verde
