Which is your favourite European city break?
mumma24 · 04/03/2021 17:51
Hi, I’ve only visited 2 cities in Europe. Paris and Salzburg and loved both. If you could only choose 3 cities which would you choose to go again. (Would be lovely to know why you’ve chosen these) Thank you

Forgot Toulouse. It's lovely. Carcasonne was a real disappointment though.

Venice - for its history and amazing architecture
Paris - for its amazing antique markets and bookshops
Prague - stunning architecture and galleries

Berlin
Prague
Krakow
It’s funny how the idea of getting on a plane and going on a city break seems so exotic and impossible, won’t it be great when we can see these places again.

Amsterdam Berlin Lisbon Budapest Prague Edinburgh Bruges Barca. Less keen on Paris Dublin Belfast Gibraltar Rome Venice

It’s hard to pick just 3 but I used to live in Vienna - amazing architecture, parks, gardens including the Prater park with the Riesenrad (Ferris wheel). Their Christmas markets are great. My 2 other favourite cities Rome - architecture, history, food
Munich - if you like Salzburg you’ll love Munich
TheAuthorityofJackieWeaver · 04/03/2021 22:56
Berlin - very cool, lots of fab bars, lots of good walking around the city
Ljubljana - sweet, walkable, close to Lake Bled!
Copenhagen - interesting and beautiful

Budapest, Vienna and Barcelona. Or Venice. Bratislava at Christmas is magical, too.
TheBigGreenDinosaur · 04/03/2021 23:14
Venice - beautiful place, especially if you get a sunny weekend!
Krakow - lots to do and very cheap! Me and DH are hoping to go back soon.
Berlin - something for everyone no matter what your interest is.
Honourable mentions to Bruges and Paris, would love to revisit both.

I love Budapest, Madrid and Prague. Krakow was great as well.

Budapest. Most beautiful city ever - way better than Paris. And so varied. You can lounge in the stunning hot spas, sail down the Danube, visit the opera houses and art galleries, the food markets, the quirky cave church and cave hospital museum, cycle round the island, find out about the grim Fascist history in the House of Terror museum, go for cocktails in the ruin bars or cake and coffee in the elegant art nouveau cafes, take the funicular, the cog railway, the sky lift or ride on the railway staffed by children. There are squares and fountains everywhere. It's cheap and beautiful.

Berlin,
Love it. Great museums, sense of place and bars.
Grenada,
The Alhambra, the food, tooled leather and weather.
London
If you don't live there it is a fantastic historical world city.

Dd is desperate to visit Paris and I always enjoy going there so we will eventually get to have a girls weekend there.

Rome, I can spend days just roaming around. It’s also very easy to then get the train to Naples but I’d suggest visiting Herculaneum and the Naples Museum instead of Pompeii. Actually I’ve done Herculaneum/museum/Pompeii a few times now but Herculaneum is to me by far the best site to visit. It’s also much smaller and easier to get around and the chances are you’ll be in there alone.
The Naples museum has most of the relics from Herculaneum and Pompeii and the room showcasing the medical instruments of the day is fascinating and a person would for sure recognise many of the gynae instruments that are exactly as they are today.
Switzerland is beautiful and I really enjoy Zurich for the walking and the lakes.
Then of course there’s London and I’m always happy to spend time in London. There’s just so much to see and do.
