Last holiday abroad with DS before Uni

DS will be 18 in June and going to Uni in September/ October. Even if he defers we have DS2 who needs to be back in school in early September. I think that the chances of him getting both vaccines by mid August are totally unlikely. Any other family in this situation? He’s missed out so much in the last year and it would be great to have this holiday all together. He might want to come with us in future but this could also be the last time.

I heard on the radio this morning that the EU is planning a system where you either prove you have had the vaccine or have to prove you have tested negative within a certain period for those who won't have had the vaccine, ie kids under 18. In the end, places like Spain and Greece will, I'm sure, want a system that works for them, ie allows lucrative travel for their tourism industry. Here's a link:

The critical paragraph is near the bottom:

"The aim is to provide: proof that a person has been vaccinated; results of tests for those who couldn’t get a vaccine yet; info on Covid-19 recovery. It will respect data protection, security & privacy.”

Thanks so much for that, I hadn’t thought about being tested before we go as being an option. Feel a bit more positive although realistically it’s a staycation this year.

In exactly the same situation!

So am I - we have a place in France we transferred from last year and now it runs up to a few days before Freshers Week so we’ll see. Clutching at any straw!

We have a European break booked for august (before Covid) and I have budgeted £500 for tests for the 4 of us. If quarantine is required we should be able to move the holiday.

I think tests will be required (possibly even for the vaccinated, but definitely for the unvaccinated, which includes all DC), so as long as you factor that into the cost of your holiday I don't think you should write off going overseas.
