Where to go 2 hours ish from Alicante?

We’ve got 10 days (potentially). Just do and I.

Love beach, tapas, people watching, red wine, wandering about. Love places like Nerja, Lake Como etc, not too touristy but still nice places.

Not adverse to splitting it into 2, Infact would probably prefer. Would rather not split into 3 and spend forever driving. Will have hire car.

Any ideas? Thanks

Alicante has a good castle. Denia also has some good ruins and nice restaurants for lunch near the port. Valencia has loads to do - the cathedral is great and the home of the Holy Grail! There are also some nice national Parks around there, cave paintings. Also, Elche / Elx is well worth a visit- known for its palm trees

Also if you are near Madrid, Toledo is absolutely lovely. Boiling hot in summer, but a more pleasant dry heat

Toledo is a long way from Alicante.

Just trying to decide whether we want a “driving and seeing everything” holiday or a chill the fuck out in a beautiful villa type:

As I said, we both drive hundreds of miles every week: plus it’s a holiday without kids

Calpe and Denia are both lovely (or were when we were there about 10 years ago) and not too far to drive.

@OrangeBlossomsinthesun
Toledo certainly is a long way from Alicante, but OP mentions it as a possibility in her third post

Puerto de Mazzaron and if you go there I’ll be jealous! Murcia city is also lovely as is Cartagena - sort of faded, Buenos Ares type feel. I just love Murcia 🤣

Starting to lean towards a beautiful villa in a a coastal town and chilling out rather than driving the length and breadth of Spain... just trying to decide where now!

We go to a villa just inland from Denia/Calpe. It's easy to get the train to Valencia from Gandia for a day trip, or the other way from Benissa to Alicante, which is supposed to be a beautiful journey. There's loads to do from really touristy places like Benidorm (Aqualandia etc) and Calpe to quiet villages. Personally we hang around our pool and the quiet village with a couple of day trips - it's about all we can manage in the heat

@tiredteacher100 that sounds blissful!

Javier definitely. It's lovely.

I'm a fan of Xabia/Javea too. It's a lovely place to use as base.

Redtartanshoes · 01/03/2021 06:46

Thanks all. Think Xabia it is. Will not be spending 10 hour plus driving 😂

Altea, 40 mins drive just past Benidorm. No high rise, lovely coastline, little harbour.
