Crete with primary aged kids

Chance would be a fine thing this summer, but realistically thinking ahead to future years! (And putting off trudging out in the drizzle for our daily walk)

Looking for recommendations for Crete - family of 4, dc 8 & 10, both big Percy Jackson/ hero's of Olympus fans.

We'll hopefully visit Athens when they're a bit older but in the meantime thinking of a beach/pool holiday with the option of a bit of history.

I visited a few of the Greek islands pre kids but have never been to Crete.

Lyttos Beach hotel is massive and impersonal but would probably suit your situation quite well. It has some decent waterslides for children who have outgrown splash pools, plus football and tennis lessons for kids! It’s quite handy for Knossos (a must for Percy Jackson fans) and it’s about 10km from an aquarium which has a good shark exhibit. We also liked that it has a number of rooms with two separate sleeping areas.

I stayed on one of the islands near Athens when my brothers were your kids age ;I'm older) and it was a great compromise because twice we took the hydrofoil to Athens for day trips but the rest of the time we had the pool, beach etc. I'm wondering Crete for myself this year, not sure how many "kids" as all of ours are adults but they are making noises about coming!

The tui sensatori caldera palace ( think its near the lythos beach mentioned above) is fabulous. Loads of kids clubs and things to do. Can't wait to go back, best place we've ever stayed.
