Anyone been here? Is there enough to do for a long weekend with two tween boys?

It depends what time of year you go and what your boys like doing. It’s definitely good if they like being active and trying new things. There are lots of footpaths and cycle trails, and there are a few places which offer kayaking, coasteering or RIB riding. Some of the beaches are good for body boarding and kite flying too.
Les Mielles golf club has a crazy golf course, laser clay pigeon shooting and bungee trampoline. The Valley Adventure Centre has paintball, zippier, ariel trekking and orienteering.
My eldest was quite interested in the war tunnels. When we visited, we were each given a copy identification card of a real person during the occupation. Walking around the museum we had to discover the fate of our character.
They also enjoyed Mont Orgueil on the North East coast. What we loved was that there were zero off limits. We literally clambered up tiny staircases to secret towers and felt our way through dark tunnels to find hidden rooms and such randomness as the Wheel of Urine!
It also depends on where you stay, to some extent. There’s a brilliant indoor swimming complex at Merton Hotel which would be good in case of wet weather!

We were going to visit last year but ... Covid. I believe there's quarantine in place which makes a short visit unfeasible still.

Also if you do make it, don't forget travel insurance.

I've wanted to visit ever since Bergerac days!

I went with my other half a few years ago. Everyone else on the plane was a pensioner so I felt a bit worried! But we had a great time.

The weather was amazing, the beaches were lovely. We hired some bikes - there's loads of well marked bike trails. The war tunnel museum was really good.

We also did sea kayaking which was very well organised and safe.

We've just booked to stay in July (well I live in hope...at least they will let me shift the booking). I figured the beaches had to be a bit quieter here than they will be in Dorset or Devon!

Car hire was over £350 for the week, so I was wondering how easy it would be to make do with buses and perhaps hire bikes for a day?

We've been to Jersey twice (stayed in the Merton hotel in St Helier)

The buses are great on Jersey. We got the bus to and from the airport.

Loads of advice on Tripadvisor. It's a really beautiful place and both times we've been July/August the weather has been great!

Yes! I live there. It’s beautiful.

Depends what time of year you come. But if mid summer the island is great fun. Because paddle boards kayaks rib trips walks bbqs. Beautiful scenery. Ice cream!

@ememem84 have they announced plans to allow visitors spring /summer? How are vaccinations going there?

as far as i'm aware its essential travel only currently (both off and on to the island) and there's a10 day quarantine period with tests at day 0, 3, 5 and 10. i'll admit i haven't even thought about travelling myself, so haven't paid much attention to that part!

vaccinations are going really well. around 20,000 people have had it now - i think they're asking for all 54-60 year olds with underlying conditions to go now. there is talk of the under 50's (the healthy ones like me...) having to pay for the vaccine as the programme will only cater for those 50 and over/under 50 with health conditions but its just talk/gossip at present (although i wouldn't be surprised if it does happen...)

pubs, bars and restaurants are open this week, beauticians/other close contact services opened last week and non essential shops two weeks ago.

so we're getting back to normal. although the craziness is that you can't visit a relative in a care home, but can invite said relative out for dinner in a packed restaurant . .. .go figure.

Yes we are definitely taking a bit of a gamble by booking, but it is 20 weeks until the school holidays and we'd be allowed to shift the booking to 2021 if need be.

I'm sure there is a seafood platter with my name on it!

@Madcats we have new electric bikes here now, so these might be an option for you. hire by the hour or week. i've never used them myself, but friends have and really rate them.

in my opinion, quayside have the best seafood platters.

where are you staying?

@ememem84 thanks for the information. Also no intention of travelling imminently and more than happy to sit tight for the forseeable to get schools re-open and vulnerable people protected etc but was just wondering about the prospect of travel to the Channel Islands by summer when hopefully the vaccination programme will have been rolled out more fully.

@ememem84 we're complicating things by staying at Elizabeth Castle. I'll have memorised that week's tide times by the summer.

I use a 2 gear Brompton at home and I see they have a few in St Helier (just push mine up steep hills!). I'd quite like to try an electric bike one day though.

Thanks for the seafood recommendation.

17 May apparently is when they’re relaxing the travel rules.

Just popping back to comment that we've had an absolutely fantastic week in Jersey.
Admittedly we've been so so lucky with the weather, but it is definitely on our "let's visit again" list.

We didn't bother hiring a car; we just bought a 7day family bus pass.

Admittedly we tended to travel round the coast, but didn't spot more than 1/2 dozen Jersey cows (from some distance).

Evie bikes seemed good, we saw plenty whizzing about, but we'll save that for another visit.
