So not this year either?

I've coped ok since March 2020, followed all the rules, but this year mental health has started to suffer. This year's not going to improve as much as we had hoped, is it? Watching the news tonight ref travel.. just depressing. Why on earth didn't we close all the borders much sooner.

We've cancelled two holidays so far (last year and this May), and did discuss with OH whether we might be able to go to Egypt in November this year but latest news seems to give me the impression it's just going to be far too complicated to travel abroad this year. I mean, when are we even going to be out of this current lockdown - when's the review date.. is there one, and will we then go back into tiers? How long will people have to self-isolate when coming into the UK - in terms of months/years? And in that regard, it's only those fortunate to either be able to work from home, not have a job, or have enough holiday to add an extra 10 days to that week or fortnight's trip! Not a problem for me as I WFH but hubby doesn't. So is this likely to continuing being the case towards the end of this year? I imagine private testing will still be required. But are there going to be any positives as we leave 2021?

We don't have a car and, because I WFH, I'm gritting my teeth with cabin fever. I really need to get away.. even if it's to go to Wales to see my father but no idea when that will be yet. I've got 10 years of working life left, years when I can financially afford to travel, so keen to get as much in as possible. Lost 2020, and most likely it will be the same for 2021.

I know how you feel. It's so depressing. Moved our holiday from last June to this July but I don't think we could afford the same hotel for next year if we moved it again as its over £400 per person dearer 🙁

I've booked a couple of fully cancellable UK holidays. I'd rather be going abroad, but rather than stressing about if we're going to manage to go on our postponed Majorca break, we've now got a decent UK back up plan and can just roll it on until 2022.

TequilaSun We're the same, we booked our holiday in April 2019, for August 2020 then changed it to August 2021. We've been looking forward to it for so long now! It was cheaper to change the date than to cancel, so we changed it just before the full fee was due, but then 2 weeks later all the holidays were cancelled anyway. I expect the price will go up again if we change it to August 2022, but by then we won't have had a holiday for 2 years so I should be able to afford it (and I desperately want a couple of weeks of sunshine and swimming!!!) This will only be the 3rd foreign holiday for the kids. DH hates hot weather, so when they were old enough for me to not need eyes in my bum looking after them we agreed I could take them abroad every other year (if we could afford it) I want it to be a lovely, fun, relaxing experience for us all, not something stressful.

I'm just pondering whether to get travel insurance now, I bought it as soon as we booked the holiday last year but then didn't use it as it was my choice to change the date. I'm wondering whether it's worth spending the £40 now, or waiting until nearer the time when we know a bit more. Does it normally go up in price nearer the time?

Thing is... even as far ahead as July - are we then going to be in a restrictive tier again when we can't even cross UK country borders? I just don't know what to do. I guess hiring a car and just doing day trips will be the most likely scenario, rather than actually planning and booking a UK break.

Personally we book the insurance before the trip.
We just have to make the most of what we have at the moment, assuming we can travel I assume places will be packed?
