Will intercontinental travel be disrupted without worldwide vaccine?

It looks as though once places like Europe have an effective vaccine
rollout over the next couple of years it should be possible to travel there perhaps not quite as before but still possible.
However surely with vaccine delays in other less well-off countries any transport to or even via these will curtail many destinations for many years to come?

I hope so. Until Covid has been removed from every country, travel should be limited to essential purposes only.

I think it will depend on how well the vaccine prevents transmission. If a vaccinated person doesn’t get ill, and is unlikely to transmit it if they do catch it, then what’s the problem? We’d have to keep a close eye on mutations though.

@Aposterhasnoname, agreed. I don’t agree that until Covid has been removed from every country there should be nothing but essential travel as let’s face it, that could take decades, destroy the travel industry and have a significant impact on economies & protection of local communities, environments and animal welfare that the tourist £ currently (or did) provide.

As others have said that would effectively trash large sections of the UK industry, cause tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of redundancies here, and world wide cripple the entire economies of some smaller countries who are heavily dependent on tourist income.

It would also devastate many families, who would be unable to see each other. MIL lives in OS, we're citizens of that country as well as this one, should we not be able to visit her until the entire world is Covid-free? That might be never! She's already 78 and her only DS and only two GC live in another country.
