Summer in your country - what would it be like?

Hi, would really appreciate any thoughts or ideas. We have a great opportunity in 2008 to rent out our house for 3 months and live somewhere else. DH leans towards NewZealand, I'd like to go to Spain or South America for the language possibilities (ds will be 4).

What could we rent, if anything, elsewhere for £600 a month or so? Preferably in a non-resort kind of place, probably a city. And any other ideas, anyone else who's done this?

Well it depends in the area you plan to spend the days. IE. My soon to be exh is from Spain, I love his city but is is unbearable hot during the summer, however... the house his family has by the beach 15 miles away is just perfect temperature wise.

There is a place in Mexico called San Miguel de Allende, excellent Spanish language and art schools in a town that has an old lovely charm you can hardly find anywhere else now. THe weather is fantastic, although a bit rainy at midday. It is a bit of an expensive place BUT is full of foreign residents who would love to do a home exchange with you if you live in a nice area of the country. Most of these foreigners are there during the winter but are happy to venture out during the summer months.

That's brilliant, Me, thank you. We live in a good area for home exchanges but unfortunately our house is not really in good enough nick to recommend to anyone except other people who are broke and have small children!

We probably wouldn't be able to afford much language schooling so we thought a city would have more things to do, but perhaps we should think more about beach/country options. Many thanks for your idea, that's the sort of city we might never have thought of ourselves.
