Travel without passport?

Hi all! I am due in a few months and will need/want to travel abroad for a short trip 3 weeks later (hopefully baby & I will be fit and healthy). That means there is barely any time to get a passport for the baby (I checked my local registry usually has appointments after 3 weeks of birth). Does anyone have a similar experience? Is there anyway this can be done faster? Does the passport fast track service still offer the service? Lastly, is there any way I can travel (and come back) without a passport?

regrettably you can't make any plans at the moment. And no, if you are British your only ID is a passport and the same for the baby. No passport, no travel.

nearer the time:

  • will you be allowed to enter the destination country? UK citizens banned from most of Europe at the moment without a very good reason to travel. Being a guest at a wedding is not a good reason.
  • can you get travel insurance with a newborn?
  • only then can you see what the passport situation is.

sorry - forget it for now. Here's hoping things change.

Do you know? if you get the passport I really would be interested if you updated the thread telling us if you did travel in the end. I have always wondered at these threads. There is no way I would go to a wedding that soon after birth, my daughter is 2.5 now, so got fresh memories. Even if the wedding were down the road, so no fat chance if it meant i had to get on a plane, and with Covid now, frogs would grow hair before that happened! So, please keep us posted with the final outcome.

Exactly. Everything is in flux and changes month by month. Things may or may not be different by the time the baby is born.

I’m less surprised by the OP to be honest than the PPs who are claiming to be horrified by this post. Have you come onto the Travel section and then Travel Advice just to be outraged? The clue is in the name.
