Days out harrogate

Hi
I am visiting my sister, who has no children, with my 6 and 2 year old this week. Has anyone got any ideas as to where we could go for days out. Farms would be a particular favourite. I moved from York a few years ago, so know my way around, but not what to do with kids!
Any recommendations would be appreciated

Oh bother, cant remember the name of it but a kind of hidden garden and maze, famous in those parts past Ripon, sorry to sound so vague. Moving on, Mother Shiptons cave at Knaresborough. There are some caves as well out past Dacre, sorry but when I lived in HGT we didn't have any kids. Failing that Valley Gardens or good walk on the Stray, Brimham rocks would be awesome for your 6 year old and Fountains Abbey is value for money, in one end, out the other up to St Mary's and see the deer if you are lucky,in to FA again. Tip go the back way to FA and ignore signs for the visitor centre, it takes you in halfway down the path and you lose the majesty of the whole thing, park in the carpark signed disabled, it is mixed but a well kept secret amongst the locals. For food Salsa Posada (Strawberry Dale) early doors is great for kids or rather it used to be. Good luck

Hi, you could try Harlow Carr Gardens, think that would be good fun with kids. Second GJ suggestions of Valley Gardens, Stray (go conkering), and I've always loved Brimham Rocks!

Thanks for that. I look forward to trying some of them!

Salsa Pasada has gone downhill so I've been told, bit too comercial now.
The maze is called The Forbidden Corner near Leyburn, tickets are hard to get, ring the F Corner before going and Leyburn tourist office they both sell an allotted number of tickets.
Also south of Hgte on the Wetherby Road are Plupton rocks, only open at weekends though but worth a visit with or without kids.
Have fun, if you haven't already been!

Plumpton Rocks!

I'd second the thing about getting tickets before going to Forbidden corner. We drove all the way and weren't allowed in.

Big Sheep little Cow - an excellent hands on children's farm near Bedale (not far from Harrogate). You get to wash the pig, feed baby animals and handle loads. Closer to Hg there is Ripley farm (Ripley's a nice place to go anyway). Ripley castle has lovely gardens but the castle tour is too long for kids. The farm is smallish and only open at weekends sometimes so check - but very hands on again, with all the right beasties. Have a nice time!
