OK - do know this has been asked before (checked the archive section!!!) but wanted to know if anyone had been recently and could give some tips on best places to go/places to avoid. We are looking to rent a villa with pool, prob. in chiclana or conil, but have seen a beautiful townhouse in Tarifa (but small pool). TIA

Just came back from Costa de la Luz a few weeks ago! Can't help on villas as stayed at my sister's place in a tiny village near Vejer de la Frontera. Vejer was lovely, a typical hilltop whitewashed village with a few restaurants.

Some fab beaches nearby - 15-20mins in car. El Palmar beach is huge with big waves, quite a few restaurants. We preferred the smaller Zahora which was also lovely but has a lagoon when the tide is out so suited dd much more. We more or less had the beach to ourselves some mornings. Thinking about it there were loads of villas to rent on the beach road to Zahora, most looked lovely.

It's a very Spanish area eg they don't speak English. We don't speak Spanish but got along fine! The opening times are spanish too eg restaurants 2-4pm then 9pm onwards. Some places close down in quieter season (mid Sept onwards).

Thanks for that zeebee. Definately think I will book there now. Can I post for more info on beaches/restaurants etc when I know exactly where we are going.
Also, which airport did you fly out to? We seem to be struggling a bit at the mo as want to fly from Manchester. Trying to decide whether the drive from Malaga would be too far.

Yes, berries, no probs. But cos of the opening times we didn't eat out much, a place in Zahora, El Palmar and from a fab italian in La Muela! The latter not very Spanish but a lot of room for dd to run around and very friendly staff.

We flew to Malaga and was 2hr 15min drive approx but DH was going pretty fast at times. Just make sure you stick to the motorway and not the coast road through Benalmadena and the like. I think Tarifa is at least 30 mins, maybe more, closer to Malaga, Conil not much further than Vejer and Chiclana about 40 mins further from Vejer. Flights to Jerez are better as is one hour drive from there to Vejer. Ryanair fly there from Stansted.

Apparently Cadiz is worth a trip too though we didn't make it.

Anything else I can help with, from my limited knowledge, let me know!
