London: Science or Natural History Museums? Which is best for DSs, 6 and 8?

Thinking of taking the boys to London tomorrow (Sunday) to go to one of these- which do you think they'd enjoy most? DS2 (6) loves dinosaurs but I think both'd like the IMAX (having heeded the caveats about prebooking!) at the Science museum. Is it miles between the 2?

Someone told me you can park at Imperial College on a Sunday. True?

Any advice or experience appreciated!

they are right next door to each other - my DS loves the NH, both museums are great

they are next door to each other and (i think) both free... so you can do the bits youlike from both!

the big dinosaur in NHM is really cool... but the science museaum has tons to actually do, so id prob spend much more time in there.

I think the Natural History museum has more to offer kids.

The Science museum is more serious (old fashioned museumy), except for the special exhibits that you have to pay extra for.

The museums are next door to eachother, so you could conceivable pop into both.

Does the Science Museum stiil have Launch Pad? We used to take school trips there when I was a teacher. Hands on and good for that age group IRRC.

There is a car park at Imperial college though any time I've gone it's been during the week and closed.

If you go early you should be able to park on the street.

They do, Megalegs, until 28th October (then it shuts down for a month and moves to a new location).

It will be heaving on a Sunday (and throughout half-term). When you do school visits, they book you in, so it is a much calmer experience.

Do dinosaurs in NHM and then go into the earth galleries - up the escalator.

Yep - also, human body gallery is great (only understandable by older people, though), as is the environment bit, and the Creepy Crawly exhibit.
