Zakynthos - small hotels by the beach?

We're hoping to take our teenagers to Greece in 2021. We've never taken them on a package holiday before, and neither dh or I have been on one for at least 20 years so we feel a bit clueless!

We've settled on Zakynthos based on its beaches and interesting places (e.g. caves) to look at.

We've love to find somewhere relatively quiet (some watersports for the boys, but along the lines of hiring a pedalo rather than waterskiing) with a good selection of tavernas.
Small hotels / B&B definitely preferable to huge waterpark-type place.

We've looked at Jet2Holidays, First Choice and TUI, but there seem to be very few smaller places available. Have all they been booked or are we looking in the wrong place??

We’ve stayed at Tsamis Spa Resort. It didn’t feel like a big resort at all and I’ve just looked it up and it’s got 74 rooms, which is small compared to others nearby.

Have a look at the area of Vasilikos. It's relatively unspoilt and quiet.
