Which companies do you / don't you recommend for shipping? We need half a container next summer to move back to Sydney.

(Didn't there used to be a 'Living overseas' topic? Has it gone or am I just daft?)

Thanks

We used Sterling and it wasn't any cheaper to get a container all to ourselves and it was much quicker . Crown was my second choice

Thanks quokka. Will look into those. A google search returned so many I thought I'd better get some recomendations. Time is not especally important to us, as we leave the uk and travel for a few months before going home.

We used Links to move from HK to Shanghai. They started off very good but at the unpacking end a few things were broken in transit and the woman supervising was very quick to blame the deficient packing on us (err, we boxed a few of the small things, but it was a wardrobe, a lamp and a cabinet that were broken, all of which were packed by their "professionals"). I know things do get broken in shipping containers moving about rough seas but I was unimpressed that she instantly wanted to get me to agree that the breakages were not their fault.

She could have been one bad egg, though.

we used GB liners to move from the UK to NZ and they were excellent
they have a slightly smeller container size which we used - ones that come over with refrigerated stuff in them but then need to be returned with the refrigeration off IYSWIM - it's cheaper than the standard ones

they'll use another associate company this side though - NZ Van lines here who were fine although I'd read not so good things about them. You may want to check who they or any other company may use on the Aus side and check up on them as well

Friends used Pickfords and said they were utterly awful

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 27/10/2007 00:33

smaller, not smeller! (that wouldn't be nice...)

Living Overseas topic is still here, under 'Homes and Gardens' {had to look pretty haRD for it though}
think there have been some previouws similar threads if you have a look

Ah, thanks, will look into those, and hunt down the topic!
