Are people booking holidays for next year?

I already have a holiday booked for June; I booked this before corona was even an issue!

It's protected etc; curious if people are bothering to book or not though? I kinda hope it doesn't get cancelled but who knows!

UK, yes.
Abroad, no.

chipsandpeas · 14/11/2020 11:10

i have mine planned for june next year should ahve been this year, altho nothing has been firmly booked (1 hotel has been booked but cancellable) and im waiting a while before starting to book anything like flights etc

RhubarbBikini · 14/11/2020 11:10

I've had one far eastern and one uk holiday cancelled this year. I've booked three uk trips for next year. The kids dont mind not going abroad next year, they'd rather bring the dog with us than have a villa with private pool next to the beach

TheLastStarfighter · 14/11/2020 11:11

We moved our U.K. summer holiday booking from 2020 to 202, and are looking forward to going. Hoping to potentially book a European break for the autumn too.

doctorhamster · 14/11/2020 11:12

I haven't yet. I wouldn't book to go abroad but I was debating a UK holiday for May half term. DH thinks it's not worth bothering though in case we're in lockdown.

PartoftheProbl3m · 14/11/2020 11:13

I don’t understand why you would book a holiday now. What’s the benefit

Jeremyironseverything · 14/11/2020 11:13

Had to reschedule our flights from last year so have booked a villa as well, but the villa is cancelable until May. So if it doesn't go ahead we won't have lost more money this year. Don't know whether the flights would be transferable again though.

TheClitterati · 14/11/2020 11:17

I really want to book for Disneyland Paris, but I won't do it because while we might be able to go to Disneyland Paris we can't do two weeks standdown once we get back.

So until the certainty about not having to isolate on return to uk, I don't see how we can plan any trips abroad.

TheClitterati · 14/11/2020 11:18

When/if things do sort themselves out next year, it's going to be a hideously crazy scramble to book holidays isn't it?

I Imagine prices will shoot right up and everything will go a bit nuts.

That's probably the one benefit of booking now

DragonMamma · 14/11/2020 11:20

We moved our holiday from this July to next July so hoping that goes ahead.

We’ve also booked to go to Turkey over May half term - we’ve booked a villa which is cancellable up to the end of March. No cheap flights available at the moment which makes me wonder if the airlines don’t see them going ahead. Who knows. Praying we can get away though

littleeggcup · 14/11/2020 11:30

The holiday I booked last December for June '21 has already doubled in price as I looked this morning!

So I can imagine if holidays are going ahead abroad then they will be pricey.

I think I might book a UK holiday as a back up!!

SushiGo · 14/11/2020 11:32

I am thinking about it, but not booked anything yet.

Ihaveyourback · 14/11/2020 11:38

Absolutely not booking anything at all at the moment, it took so long to unwind all of the trips booked this year.
I have no confidence at the moment to book. We will book all of our trips at the last minute when we know we can actually go.

I have done many trips in the UK already this year, so we are planning to go overseas, but we will book closer to the time.

Whoooootaminute · 14/11/2020 11:41

Not me.

I have had too many cancellations this year and find it quite stressful waiting for refunds.

Will just wait and see. No young DC so not limited to school holidays.

AnyFucker · 14/11/2020 11:46

Yes, not much choice really.

This year a holiday booked in Jan for May was moved to this month due to LD1. LD2 means we cannot go again so moved it to next May. Third time lucky ?

I find the faux incredulity of folk saying "why on earth would you be stupid enough to book in a pandemic" really fucking irritating, actually

Amber0685 · 14/11/2020 11:48

No, we have airline& hotel credit as our last holiday was cancelled, but not brave enough to book yet. Would love to as we have elderly relatives overseas.

Roselilly36 · 14/11/2020 11:48

No, waste of time, given that COVID isn’t going away. Too much hassle trying to cancel and get a refund, we booked a trip in Jan 20 to travel to Spain in March 20, we lost the money on our flights, Ryanair still flew although Spain had locked down, so they didn’t have to refund. Needless to say whenever we do travel again, our flights won’t be through Ryanair, they have had the last penny out of us.

Pellewsmate · 14/11/2020 11:48

We've booked a longhaul holiday for next August. Really low price and ridiculously small deposit. We'll know more about the situation by the time the remainder in due in June and if we lose the deposit at least we've had 9 months of looking forward to something. It's also giving me motivation to loss a bit of weight.

JustAboutPresentable · 14/11/2020 11:49

No. We’ll definitely go away in the summer if allowed, but not booking anything until much nearer the time.

userxx · 14/11/2020 11:52

Booked to go in June with my friend, only 4 nights away but can't wait! It's the only think I've got to look forward to so far.

MillieMoodle · 14/11/2020 11:56

We've got one booked for next July abroad but we were supposed to go this July and pushed it to next year. Whether we'll be able to go or not I don't know. I wouldn't book anything abroad at the moment though.

Branleuse · 14/11/2020 11:57

Ive booked one for france next May, but they have a covid guarantee so can change it if necessary. Fingers crossed it goes ahead. At least with France can just drive there

Fastforwardtospring · 14/11/2020 11:59

Won’t be booking anything for 2021 until we’ve had money back from cancelled 2020 holiday, On the Beach taking ages to refund Ryanair flights, which according to O’Leary all refunds have been processed......

grenadines · 14/11/2020 11:59

We have booked Brittany Ferries crossings as wanted specific cabins in school holidays. Also have a Self catering ski holiday booked which is refundable if travel restrictions are still in place. I would not book anything involving a flight as think the risk of catching covid on the plane is too great. There is also more flexibility with self drive.
