Are people booking holidays for next year?

I already have a holiday booked for June; I booked this before corona was even an issue!

It's protected etc; curious if people are bothering to book or not though? I kinda hope it doesn't get cancelled but who knows!

@trilbydoll

We've got a Brittany Ferries credit note and a credit note for a campsite in France. We will rebook for August 21.

I'm most worried about BF going under before we have a chance to use the credit note tbh Shock

Brittany Ferries reported a while back that they had enough funding from the French government to see them through 2021. Since then I think they and other ferry companies (DFDS and P&O) have received a further subsidy from the UK government for freight services after Brexit. BF are only running a couple of ferries over the winter period as a result of the travel restrictions so the current lockdown is probably not having that much impact. I have a booking with them in the summer.

I have 3 holidays booked - all refundable.

So why not

cabinbythelake20 · 14/11/2020 20:35

Slovenia in June **

PartoftheProbl3m · 14/11/2020 22:12

Why would you book w holiday in w pandemic Grin

Lurchermom · 14/11/2020 22:13

We rebooked our 2020 holiday to Italy to June 2021. Im skeptical, but hopeful. Its got free cancellation up to about 8 weeks before so we have time..

hartof · 14/11/2020 22:31

As a travel agent, yea people are booking uk holidays. Abroad I feel will be a last minute thing for a while yet.

hartof · 14/11/2020 22:32

And I would like to add if you are planning a UK break, you will struggle for availability. With all the people affected by lockdown this year moving to next year, it hasn't left much!

AuntieMarys · 14/11/2020 22:37

Just booked today for next October.

TokyoSushi · 14/11/2020 22:40

We have a UK holiday booked for June and I'm looking at Europe for the summer, although I'll wait probably until early 2021 to book it.

savagebaggagemaster · 14/11/2020 22:41

Our Eurocamp holiday in France was rebooked for May half-term 2021. I hope we can still go.

TheDogsMother · 14/11/2020 22:51

DH booked flights to The Canaries in March. Flights can be refunded by voucher and hotel is paid when we check out. I've just booked some flights to Northern Spain in September. They were incredibly cheap and also changeable so they were worth a punt. It feels great to have something to look forward to and we have to change them, we will change them.

Yes, but only in part.

We had a trip of a lifetime booked to Asia this summer - I was left some inheritance with instructions to fly first class long haul with it. Moving the exact same holiday to next year was all covered by insurance but as we booked with Trailfinders we are able to do it piecemeal. I can not fault them. They cancelled everything six weeks before with a full refund.

So the flights have been rebooked (for £2,500 less than we originally paid for them - winning!!!!), along with three nights in the destination city so it’s now classed as a package and covered by all Trailfinders cancellation policies plus my insurance.

I then have five nights booked on the beach in another Asian location which I did direct (not through Trailfinders) which was non refundable or they would shift to next year for no fee and at the same rate. Again, that’s covered by insurance. The 10 nights in between and flights between islands I have just left for now and will stay that way until we have a much clearer picture.

I might be looking at things differently about this trip though as the inheritance is paying for it and it feels “free” as a result.

I would love to go away at Easter next year but I definitely won’t be booking that yet!!

SilkieRabbits · 15/11/2020 13:09

Our insurance wouldn't pay out for anything on our Asian holiday this year as FCO advice was can travel even though you weren't allowed in. The hotels either refunded, one would only move a year which doesn't look possible with covid as we aren't in the group due to be vaccinated so that's a write off but only £270. No refund on all AirAsia flights either which was another £1,130 likely lost, got credit note for some of it but again doubtful can use and they are high bankruptcy risk. EVAAir were amazing and refunded in full straightaway. I wish I had booked a package though the packages for what we wanted were twice the price. Not keen to book again until very low risk and won't be booking anything so far in advance again.

PurBal · 15/11/2020 13:11

I was very close to booking abroad and then found out I'm pregnant so decided against it. I was planning on going to see family without DH. Maybe I'll still go, who knows.

movingonup20 · 15/11/2020 13:23

Yes, but fully cancellable. Driving to Italy

movingonup20 · 15/11/2020 13:24

@PartoftheProbl3m

If you are going for a specific event, if you don't book a year in advance you can't go! I just made sure I could cancel.

GillT333 · 15/11/2020 14:14

Yes I have four holidays lined up. Travel is my thing. I have had cancellations this year but also managed to go abroad four times as well. I spend a lot of time researching and following travel advice! The pandemic means I can’t get as excited as usual about trips because I realise they may be cancelled but I like to have things on the horizon. Also I like booking when the prices are low!

nosswith · 15/11/2020 18:08

I have booked nothing. I have an idea of where to go and when though. I had a lucky escape this year in that I forgot to book a flight to visit family abroad in July.

WonderMoon · 15/11/2020 18:15

We booked a holiday cottage down south for next May. Booked it in June. If we can afford it, we might book a week or so away to somewhere in Greece for September but we'll do it closer to the time.

Blossomhill4 · 15/11/2020 18:19

I booked Centre parcs for March! As it’s my birthday. I already have Turkey booked from last year for May next year. I won’t be booking anything else though unless it’s last minute.

minnimiss · 15/11/2020 19:24

We have a long haul holiday booked for next summer but it was booked in early March, when we really had no idea of the full impact of Covid. The holiday is a package and fully protected so if we have to postpone to 2022 then we will do that but very much hope we can go.

sansou · 16/11/2020 22:33

UK week booked for next July. Might consider a week in Europe if it's looking good but in all honesty, we'd most probably stick to a week in August at another UK destination.

MinnieMountain · 17/11/2020 19:18

We’ve had to carry over May half-term in England and my swimming holiday in Slovenia in July from this year.

DH has booked refundable skiing for him and DS.

We’re going to Pembrokeshire in August. I actually booked that during our holiday there this year as I assumed the UK will be busy next year.

badpuma · 17/11/2020 19:23

Yep. We've booked accommodation and transport for Spain next summer. We booked with the same people this year for a different holiday and had everything refunded within 2 weeks of request and it's only deposits until May next year. If we can't go, we'll go away in the UK.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 17/11/2020 19:33

I was thinking of booking a uk cottage for Easter, and found a couple with either a month or 2 week cancellation policies.

But now I've panicked I wouldn't have predicted lockdown 2 at 2 weeks notice....
