Are people booking holidays for next year?

I already have a holiday booked for June; I booked this before corona was even an issue!

It's protected etc; curious if people are bothering to book or not though? I kinda hope it doesn't get cancelled but who knows!

@TheClitterati Disney are offering free cancellation or changes up to 7 days before you go at the moment, so no harm in booking if that's where you want to go.

I work in travel and people are booking for next year now. Loads of companies have put flexible booking/cancellation options in place and it's nice to have something to look forward to!

We've just booked America for August. Even if Covid's still around, risks of infection will be low in summer. We skipped Europe, because we're not sure if Brexit is going to cause travel chaos. Having said that, we've booked skiing for February half-term in Andorra. Although that's not in the EU, so should be no better / worse.

Conundrum at the moment is Easter. Do we go for a UK holiday? The vaccine will only just be rolling out by then, and a UK lockdown is just as likely as a European one.

DuzzyFuck · 14/11/2020 12:04

@DragonMamma The lack of cheap flights is because the airlines can't afford to offer them any more. So far as I can see from inside the industry the days of €9.99 fares are over for the foreseeable future, at least until they've built back up the millions they've lost from their balance sheets this year.

spidermomma · 14/11/2020 12:07

@littleeggcup we did exactly the same around April time thinking it would of blown over slightly by next year. Kind of cautious it won't have and it's for outside of the uk. Don't know if to cancel it so we don't loose any more money or just pay and see what happens ?

Zenithbear · 14/11/2020 12:08

We've re-arranged our winter 2021 holiday for Winter 2022.
Hoping to go abroad late summer next year but not booking it for a while yet.
We always go on a few UK holidays so will start sorting that out after Christmas.

littleeggcup · 14/11/2020 12:08

I had a month book for June this year in Spain. Luckily had a full refund.

I do hope it goes ahead next year not going to lie. I'm looking forward to it.

But will book a UK holiday just in case. Quite lucky as ds is at private school so can take out school term time if needed

Just a note to all those planning to book last minute, without receiving some cash flow from deposits now and the assurance of having some passengers / guests / clients through advance bookings, you may find that the holidays you want aren't available last minute.

Hotels won't open if they have no advance bookings, and airlines will pull empty flights out of their schedules. Thousands of travel and holiday related businesses all over the world have already folded and many more will follow.

I haven't booked anything yet but for the sake of a few quid deposit that we'd get back anyway I probably will in the next few weeks.

blowinahoolie · 14/11/2020 12:14

No, staying put.

Thanks @DuzzyFuck

So if there was no lockdown or travel restrictions could we cancel if we did not want to quarantine on return to uk?

I'm a bit worried of things changing. But I will investigate further. I'm thinking of booking for Easter. Disneyland or camping in uk?

kmojojana · 14/11/2020 12:28

Uk break booked for August. Can be cancelled up to a week before. I have something to look forward to even if it doesn't go ahead.

DuzzyFuck · 14/11/2020 12:28

@TheClitterati Yep, as far as I read it in their T&Cs you don't need any particular reason to cancel or change...

Oh I agree, when I mean cheap, I mean affordable and not taking a ridiculously long route.

To travel from my local airport to Dalaman is currently £1600pp and takes around 30hrs each way using about 4 different airlines.

EasyJet et al don’t seem to have released many routes at all. Even London airports have limited options and often mean taking off from one airport and landing in another on the way back.

JacobReesMogadishu · 14/11/2020 13:13

I've booked caravan sites in the UK, I expect them to be busy like they were this year. I wouldn't book abroad.

SilkieRabbits · 14/11/2020 13:18

No, still chasing the money from this year's cancelled Asian one.

In time may book another UK one but even that will wait until things are more certain.

Campervan69 · 14/11/2020 13:33

We managed 2 holidays this year in the end. Portugal in August and Madeira in October half term.

We have a holiday booked for last Easter that has been shunted to next Easter and will go if we can.

wendywoopywoo222 · 14/11/2020 13:35

I had a cruise booked for this year which I have changed to next year. Have only paid a deposit and don't have to decide until June whether to pay the balance or not. Hopefully the situation will be clearer by then. I won't book anything else out of the uk.

SJaneS48 · 14/11/2020 15:11

Yes, booked back in September for August. It’s abroad but within Europe.

Obviously it may not come off but then there aren’t any guarantees even with a U.K. holiday. We had to cancel the UK break we had booked in October.

Quite frankly, I needed something to look forward too. I know it might not come off, it’s all cancellable and only the flights would need to be reclaimed. There is a better chance than there was when I booked it that a vaccine will have changed the situation as well.

And @AnyFucker, “ I find the faux incredulity of folk saying "why on earth would you be stupid enough to book in a pandemic" really fucking irritating, actually” - totally!

Lockdown02 · 14/11/2020 18:13

I booked to go to Crete for next May and I’m just about to book a holiday for February.
I had 3 holidays cancelled this year but was able to have a holiday in Devon and another to Turkey in September.
I’m Going to book a UK break for mid December this year and if it’s cancelled then it’s cancelled.

Georgyporky · 14/11/2020 18:53

We've had 4 holidays cancelled during 2020 - all OK at the time of booking.

It took months to get all the money back, & we've lost a lot on currency exchange rates.

So no, I won't book anything until the last minute.

trilbydoll · 14/11/2020 19:09

We've got a Brittany Ferries credit note and a credit note for a campsite in France. We will rebook for August 21.

I'm most worried about BF going under before we have a chance to use the credit note tbh Shock

Venicelover · 14/11/2020 19:22

We have Greece booked for May but we are hoping for an earlier break if possible.

If things are more normal there will be no stopping us as we had 4 holidays cancelled this year so we need to make up for lost time!

cliffdiver · 14/11/2020 19:40

That's why we opted for the refund rather than credit note from TUI.
tinytemper66 · 14/11/2020 19:44

Booked for Sorrento in August 2019 for August 2020 and have moved it to August 2021. Decide unless there are restrictions we will go!

Didyousaynutella · 14/11/2020 19:47

Definately booked up the whole year. Mixture of uk holidays and holidays in europe via ferry though not on a plane.

cabinbythelake20 · 14/11/2020 19:50

I have one holiday booked in March (UK Air BNB) and a week in Slovenia in March. Free cancellation on accom and we can move flights if need to without charge. Places were already being booked up!

It feels good to have something to look forward to despite been a little wary
