Car Seats and flying

Hi. We are flying long haul with dd (20 months) for the first time in a couple of weeks. We are taking the car seat with us to use on hols (as luggage, not on the plane) - is this counted as part of our luggage allowance? Does anyone know of any sort of bag I can buy to pack the seat in - don't want to go to the trouble of taking it and get there and find it's broken and unusable.

Also, we are flying BA as they have the seats that are suitable for up to 2 years, rather than just bassinets - we have requested bulkhead seats but been told they cannot be guaranteed - any advice on the best way to ensure we get these? Is is just a case of turn up to check in as early as poss? Dd doesn't sit still on my lap for 2 mins at home - so what she'd be like for 12 hours I don't know!

I've had a look through earlier threads and picked up a few useful tips, but any suggestions gratefully received! Thanks.

I'd like to know the same thing.

It definitely counts towards your luggage allowance as we had same problem recently.

Don't know about bulkhead seats. Perhaps keep ringing them and get there early. I have seen people swap once on board so maybe friendly cabin crew and passengers will be kind. However, thought only 'fit and healthy adults' were allowed in the bulk head seats which are by emergency exits?

They'll stick you on the bulk head if they can! its just the emergency exits you can't have as able bodied people only. There was a site posted on here a while ago that had travel tips on it, I'll take a look and see if I can find it for you. Re the seat, if you've not booked it a seat, afraid its part of your luggage.....
