Advice for flight to Oz with 14 month od

Flying to Australia in a couple of weeks with DH and 14 month old DS - not yet walking but crawling very fast, a right wriggle bum with lots of energy... (DS that is.. )

We are flying Singapore Airlines with a 2 hr stop in Singapore en route - night flight from London. Any advice???

We have managed to secure a sky cot but we reckon that DS will be too long to fit in properly. Not too worried about the whole thing but thought someone out there may have some gems of advice....

Thanks

wear trousers as your little one will be standing on your lap a lot & a skirt will slip & be uncomfy.

you'll probably not be able to eat the meals as the tray gets in the way so take some snacks.

good luck!

There is a koi pond at Changi Airport that should keep him enchanted for the stopover. There is also an outdoor sunflower garden - it is actually the smoking area but is big enough that you can wander around away from the smokers. It's upstairs, follow the signs for smoking area.

Keep an eye on him in the sky cot - I flew SQ a few months ago and the sides seem to be strangely low. I was sitting next to a mother with a child (probably a little older than yours) who was a very restless sleeper, and managed to flip himself right out onto my lap (without waking up. Very impressive).

Buy him a new toy and don't let him see it till he is on the flight. He will probably just sleep on top of you and it will by your DH's job to feed you. Cot definitely not a goer in my experience - not at that age. Take a change of clothes for him and at least a clean T-shirt for you in the carry on. Take your own snacks for him.

HTH, sim

I would get the bassinet anyway, he can at least sit in it whilst you eat (if you're lucky). My DD only just fitted in it at 13 months and she is very petite. But then he can always dangle his legs over the end. Remember to confirm the bassinet at check in, otherwise you may get seated in a row where the bassinet can't be attached.

Let him crawl up and down the aisles in between trolley rounds - DD did this and charmed the pants off everyone!
