title says it all really. I have the biggest headache trying to find a holiday destination for 2 adults and 2 dd aged 8 and 9 for next July. Just wondered if mn can help? We are thinking of the canaries because we want to do dolphin/whale spotting boat trips. We want hb or all inclusive, nice pools, nice weather, childrens club, 2 or 3 places to visit within 45 mins of resort, transfer from airport less than 45 mins, not like butlins!
Budget £1800 - £2500 max.
Problems so far include:
Fuerteventura - found nice hotel in costa caleta but thought resort may be too quiet
Lanzarote -Costa tequise - is it too windy?
Has anybody advice on the canaries?

Puerto Rico -Gran canaria
we stayed at terrazamar sunsuite royal- the apartments are wonderful, 3 pools and has a kids club...night time entertainment not fab but kids bit ok
loads of restaurants especially(nice ones) near the new beach-Playa amadores

we went out on a whale/dolphin trip for 2.5 hours and all we saw was a turtle

confusedotcom · 08/10/2007 10:39

chatee is it windy on gran canaria?

chatee · 08/10/2007 10:41

not as windy as other islands especially around puerto rico as it's sheltered..

confusedotcom · 08/10/2007 11:03

thanks chatee but it's a bit far from the airport as dd2 is a poor traveller

OP posts:
chatee · 08/10/2007 11:04

it's only 30 mins and is motorway all the way(we have the same issue with dd!!)

confusedotcom · 08/10/2007 11:14

really! jmc are claiming a 1hr 30 min transfer time

chatee · 08/10/2007 11:50

yes, ithink tour companies add on time in case you have to drop off guests in other resorts but ours was with a i r tours and they guaranteed first or second drop off for the terrazamar sunsuites royal....
in a taxi it's 25 mins direct but is a little expensive.

we went to Gran Canaria for our honeymoon yrs ago, stayed at Peurto Rico and my main memory was the cockroaches! millions of them all due to the very hot weather they were experiencing.

Costa tequise is windy but is a lovely resort- would go back.

Teneriffe, Costa Adeje is nice, its the better end of Las Americas, good hotels, most have kids clubs, would go back there again happily, if only I could get a hotel room that fits our 3 full bed requiring kids in it, along with us

Playa Blanca for me is the best part of Lanzarote and the Rubicon Palace is a great place to stay but not sure about kids clubs. Tere's a complex called Sun Tropical
which may be the sort of thing that you're looking for. All of the big tour operators offer it I think so it should be on their websites.

Car hire was such good value when we were there that we didn't bother with the tranfers and it's only about 20 mins or so to the airport.

Best of luck.

confusedotcom · 09/10/2007 10:05

dee how old were your dcs when you went to Rubicon Palace? Also is it situated centrally and can you walk anywhere from it?
Just had a look and it looks nice!

I have also been to Rubicon Palace. Last when ds was 5. Children's club was okay one year and not so good the next. All the children made friends together around the pools. Its about 40 mins into centre. You can walk to playa flamingo beach in 20 mins where they are some shops. It is a nice walk along the coast.
we were loking to go back next year the cheapest I have seen it was with airtours. The travel agents now match online prices.

You need to go on Brttany Ferries trip to Sain www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=627 also see www.marine-life.org.uk/blueoceansafaris/index.html

DEE7479551 · 10/10/2007 22:09

They were 12, 10, & 8 but we didn't use the kid's club. We hired a car and did our own thing mostly as we wanted to explore the island.

It's not as central as it could be and it's not on the beach. We also spent quite a bit of time in the marina where there are nice shops and restaurants but that is not walkable from the Rubicon.

It all depends what you want to do with your time there. We went in February so it's a bit different to Summer.

My hotel of choice would be the Princess Yaiza but it's £££££

confusedotcom · 12/10/2007 10:31

thanks so much great info.
Dee and marbeth did you go hb or all inclusive at Rubicon?
Airtours mentioned a courtesy bus from rubicon to Lanzarote princess - did you see or use it?
Dee did you hire a car through the tour operator?
looked at yaiza but well out of our budget. anyone used lanzarote princess?

My sister lives in Gran Canaria. I wouldnt know what it is like in July, she normally escapes to colder climes during july/august as even if she has arthritis, the heat gets too much for her. Up to 40 degrees centigrades.

Hi
you could try the hotel Los Jameos Playa in Lanzarote. Its a lovely airy 4 star hotel fronting onto a large sandy beach. It;s about 10 mins drive from the airport, but you can't really hear the planes when oyu stay there. It has extensive ground and 3 pools. The rooms are large and they also offer family rooms. In my opinion their childcare is really excellent but it is not in your face. The food can be half- board (breakfast and dinner) or all inclusive, and is fantastic. Half board is loads, not many people go for the AI option and it does up the price a good bit.
Budget about Euro 2500 for a week for 2 adults, 2 kids.
It has pretty much all that the Yaiza has for less dosh and is a bit less glitzy about it, which is a good thing in my view.
When we stayed there (Feb 06) I thought the accomomodation was top notch but I now hear that they are renovating the hotel from top to bottom, although I honestly can't think why as it was very smart anyhow.

Hope this helps.

DEE7479551 · 15/10/2007 22:26

We went for half board but also went out a few evenings too.

At the end of the day I think the car came from the airline network but there are loads of places to look on-line. We wanted a bigger Jeep type car which was harder to find and I think that we paid something like £220 for the week including everything.

Lanzarote Princess - have a look at trip advisor, I seem to remember that it has mixed reviews.
