The title says it really! We're off to Zurich for a week next month and what absolutely can't be missed? Plus what things are suitable for a 3 year old?

Thanks!

if you have a car you should go out to Uster to KinerCity - you can prob find in on Google. It is brilliant for kids. Also Jucker FarmArzt nearby is also really good if the weather is fine.

As for the city itself I'm not sure. It is very pleasant to stroll around the old town but a coffee is pricey! I realise now that despite having family there I have hardly ever visited anything! TBH we always go for lots of walks round lakes!

sorry that should say 'Kinder City'

Jump on a train and head straight for Lake Lucerne, about an hours ride away. Go to the fantastic and wonderful mirror maze, I can't begin to describe how fab it is and your 3 year old should love it.

We won't have a car, can Kindercity be got to by other methods? It looks fab!

And ooh, a mirror maze, yes he would love that!

These are definitely going on the list.

yes you can go by train from Zurich - on the website there's a bit 'Anfahrt mit dem Zug' telling you S-bahn 9 or 19 to Uster. It is then a short bus ride. It is really good and you can spend the whole day there. It is mainly indoors (with an outside play area) so is partic good if its rainy. At the top of the page I've linked click on 'Anfahrt' and it gives you directions in German. You could paste it into a translation page if you don't understand.

Zoo, walking around the old town, coffee and cake at Sprungli on Paradeplatz, boat trip on the lake and feeding the ducks, tram rides, train ride up the Uetliberg with walk to play area and great views down lake to mountains. Kindercity isn't that great imo unless weather is poor (rather like basement of Science Museum) and will be busy over next few weeks as it is school break. Will have a think about other ideas ....

If you fancy a trip out of Zurich Einesiedeln is a picturesque town with a station and nice monastery worth a visit or Lucerne with its glacial garden and trip up Mount Pilatus nearby. Northwards how about the Rhinefalls near Schaeffhausen or Basel.

I'll warn you now October/November can be damp, foggy and nippy so go prepared.
