Me and dh normally go away New Years Eve because its so rubbish where we live.

We have exhausted Dublin/Newcastle/Manchester and would like to do something a bit different this year.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas, or what youre doing? It cant be mega expensive, i would say £400 tops but preferably cheaper than that

right by the canals- you could meander round the canalside bars- lots of lovely restuarants.

( without kids of course!!)

Birmingham is great for a break- lots to do- lots of nice bars around the canal area.

Feck- well its the Ramada Birmingham City anyway.

Or malmaison- its also in the mailbox.

ooh I love the malmaison, is that down by the canals then?
Have to admit havent been to Birmingham for a long time, I just have visions of it being like Cardiff only with more curry houses (the best curry I ever had was in Brum, god I wish I could remember where, I was very drunk )

Ha ha- the curry houses are all in another part of the city!

Malmaison and Ramada are both in the Mailbox - I suppose as its a big city, it can be compared to Cardiff. But around the canal area is very nice, if you are only staying for one night- there would be plenty for you to do around the mailbox area.

Its not quaint like Oxford etc- but it is a good city for a short break.
