Gah they are on the amber list. Only going Saturday to Tuesday but live in Scotland so more draconian quarantine decisions. Really don't want to have to quarantine. What are my chances do you think?

I was in a similar situation with my upcoming holiday in Croatia, we were supposed to be flying out on the 25th. If I'm totally honest I'd be looking at cancelling or postponing, even though it's so disappointing. If Portugal go on the list while you're over there you'll definitely have to quarantine in return, unless you get home in time. It's awful when you've been looking forward to it, such a shit situation at the moment.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 29/08/2020 00:10

No way would I risk it.

AlwaysLatte · 29/08/2020 00:13

I would but only because I could self isolate afterwards. If you can't then it's a dicey decision.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 29/08/2020 00:16

Don't want to or can't??
If it's the former, I'd go. It's just been taken off the list so surely not likely to go straight back on?
If you can't then you can't...

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 07:44

It's off the quarantine list but cases are nudging up - it's 16.4 at the minute, but we fly back on Tuesday so thinking quarantine unlikely to be imposed in that short time.

I could self isolate, although it would be a bit of pain, but I wfh so it is doable.

I arrived to Portugal yesterday - so I’d say just do it! Just being in the sun was so amazing and just what I needed mentally and physically.

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 07:50

Yes I think I will go. Not sure about my friend - she is a lot more cautious than I am, and implications of quarantine would be higher.

The pattern seems to be that countries for quarantine are announced on a Thursday to start from the Saturday, so if you are flying back on Tuesday you should be fine in terms of quarantine.

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 07:52

Thanks @Geranium01 just the Scottish question makes it slightly more concerning as scottish government has sometimes made different decisions to UK government.

Sorry I wasn't paying full attention and missed you were in Scotland!

Aragog · 29/08/2020 08:18

They have only just come off the list so it would feel fairly safe to go there right now, as I can't imagine them being put back so soon.

I'd imagine it's amber as only just off. They must have have taken them off for a reason.

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 08:21

@Aragog that's why I booked as figured just off the list so would be a safe bet. But numbers have risen - particularly yesterday so their rate has climbed.
I'm not worried about catching it as think I had it in March, more about quarantine suddenly being reimposed. Just a bit worried friend will drop out as she was nervous about flying anyway.

Serves me right for booking an abroad break right now I suppose Confused.

I'd be wary, they took Spain off the quarantine list only to reimpose it 2 days later. It's a nightmare.

LEELULUMPKIN · 29/08/2020 11:30

I'd go in a flash. The quarantine rules normally come out on a Thursday evening now to come in force for the next day, so you would be back anyway.

Of course they could impose them at any time but on the balance of probability and considering the fact they have only just opened I reckon you would be OK until Thursday at the very least.

LEELULUMPKIN · 29/08/2020 11:31

PS: If your mate bottles it, I have my passport ready OP :)

Lepetitpiggy · 29/08/2020 11:33

We're due to go on Wednesday to Monday.. I'd not seen it was back on Amber though Confused

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 12:29

My friend dropped out Confusedam at airport alone having a bit of a wobble.

I had planned to go alone originally, but then got excited by the idea she was coming too.

I'm sure I'll be fine when I get there. Airport is so weird with most places closed and few people.

Decentsalnotime · 29/08/2020 12:31

I would go

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 29/08/2020 13:55

Enjoy it OP! Shame about your friend but I think with all things Covid it's very personal in terms of what level of risk everyone is comfortable with.

rookiemere · 29/08/2020 14:47

I didn't go in the end. Found out she got a refund from the hotel, so I'm hoping I can too. Feel a bit gutted but also relieved.
