We're off to Oz at Easter and wanting to stop off in Singapore on the way home. Could you recommend a hotel with a pool for us please MNetters?

Thank you.

swissotel? has 2 outdoor pools

AttilaTheMeerkat · 05/10/2007 13:30

Go to the Shangri La. It amongst other things has a landscaped area with an infinity line style swimming pool.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 05/10/2007 13:34

Have used the pools at the Swissotel, the water was cold. The whole pool area was disappointing.

We stayed at Traders Hotels near Orchard Road which was really good

The Marina Mandarin is lovely and has a really nice rooftop pool (with bar area!). The staff are great with kids - my kids get really excited about staying there. Their "family room" is two good size interconnecting rooms at a good rate (you'll probably get the best rate by going direct). Try and get a breakfast included rate as the buffet breakfast is fantastic.

Would suggest you read www.tripadvisor.com before you book up your trip to Singapore. All of these hotels have reviews.

Fantastic, thank you. Will definitely check out Tripadvisor, Atilla. Great website, which I had forgotten all about!

Just one last question, which Tripadvisor may answer are any of them not high?! I hate heights! (I survived Hong Kong, so can do it, but much prefer to be near street level!!)

If you hate heights, do NOT stay at the Pan Pacific. Lifts are glass and internal atrium is v v high. (Though I would otherwise recommend it to anyone!!)

Finally, just confirmed our hotel. I came up with the ideal solution for my height phobia, so we're staying on Senosa Island at the Rasa Sentosa, which is lowish rise and perfect for the kids, being near the aquarium/beach. I am ridiculously excited about it. (So no negative comments now, please?!)

It looks lovely on tripadvisor photos. OOOh! Just wanted to share this with someone!!

good choice.
there is a little community of MNers here, so buzz us if you need tips on entertaining kids.

Notquitegrownup · 09/11/2007 13:19

Thanks Slim. Do you know the hotel? I looked at all of the others recommended, and was very tempted, until I found my beachside hotel. Mmmmm.

Good choice nice pool area and plenty to do on Sentosa. Enjoy!

Notquitegrownup · 09/11/2007 14:03

We will! I cannot get a feeling for the size of Sentosa - it looks lovely. Do you know, can we eat out reasonably on the island? Having splashed out on the hotel rather, we would like to save a little if we can, and also not feel limited by hotel food. Are there supermarkets on the island for buying bottled water for example?

I can look up all the attractions etc, but we're only there for a couple of days, so it is brilliant getting these questions sorted in advance.

Thank you!

There are lots of places to eat on Sentosa and the prices vary, you can spend as much as you want to. Its easy to get around as there are various bus routes that cover the whole island, which is not that big, not sure actual size there is also a monorail which will take you to a huge mall called Vivocity where you can buy absolutley anything. Loads of restaurants and a huge food hall, there are also load of restuarants in the basement and there is even a supermarket there should the need arise!

slim22 · 10/11/2007 02:28

there is your answer!

On sentosa itself transport is free on shuttle buses.
In Palawan beach there is a food court by the beach and full cooked meals are about S$5 per head.
Same in the big food courts on the 3rd floor/basement of vivocity.
It's actually a swanky shopping mall with hundreds of food outlets.
Don't worrry about that. Food is plentifull and cheap in Singapore.

Never stayed at the hotel but went for sunday brunch and pool area is nice.

For a family of 3/4 don't hesitate to take taxis. It won't cost muuch more than 4 train tickets.

Do not miss the zoo and the night safari.
