Hi, we're thinking about taking a trip in December or January with our 9 month old. My wife will be about 5 months pregnant by then if all works out.

We're thinking about Fuetventura or Lanzarote any major considerations for going away? Will probably get our own place on Airbnb with its own pool and self catering and eating out.

Thanks

Check pool is heated if you get a villa. You usually have to pay more. It will be unusable otherwise. Take a cheap paddling pool too. I've been to both those two islands and to be honest prefer Tenerife. The north bit, in the valley. Beautiful and not very 'British'. Lovely zoo at Loro parque. Amazing places to eat And lovely little towns.
Some of the Canaries are very windy and it can really affect your holiday.
F - nice bits, at either end. Middle very barren.
L - also barren, but more interesting with the volcanic stuff and amazing vineyards growing in volcanic soil. Also interesting art and architecture.

We travel to Tenerife most years with our children and stay in the los gigantes area, it’s just the right level of peaceful but with plenty of shops and restaurants to walk to. We stay in el marques palace apartments, they are basic but clean and have lovely balconies and terraces. The views of the sea and cliffs are great to wake up to. Most importantly for our kids thur have a very warm tiny kids pool and a warm normal pool which is never busy (we go two weeks before Christmas hols). It’s just a very small place, nothing fancy but we love it and keep going back. It’s also opposite a great lidls for shopping which is so handy. Los gigantes has a very sheltered location thanks to cliffs around it so tends to be the warmest sunniest part of the island. Only problem is it’s a fair walk to the beach which obviously is black sand which I do not love
