Skiing .... December 2020

We have a long standing skiing holiday booked for this year, booked 18mths ago.

I can't see the point in going. Social distancing and masks in a ski resort? How will it work? 1 person on a chair lift? 1 person in a gondola?

Kids are all booked for ski school and afternoon childcare club.

Remainder of monies are due next month.

Think we should cut our loses and say goodbye to our ski holiday this year.

The restrictions will be so stressful.

Well, masks skiing would actually be the easiest thing ever as I always have a face covering because of the cold. Many people already do wear face coverings skiing.

I could see ski resorts reducing sales of lift passes and those that are sold, have time restrictions - measures geared to limit those in the queue and setting up distances in the queue for ski lift.

In gondolas, reducing number per gondola and all wearing masks, if a window or vent could be opened too. I could imagine the wind rushing through and constantly clearing the air.

Everyone is also usually wearing gloves skiing too.

So it’s the lift queues, packed gondola, sanitising equipment and apri ski that’s the issue - which could be addressed but in a manner that would limit the number of people which in turn impacts resorts bottom line. So whether or not ski resorts want to do this is another matter but easily imagined how it could be done .

I’d more worry about all the people flying in from all over. I don’t think flying in a pandemic is very smart thing to do.

Some resorts are already delaying opening or not opening at all for 2020/1. One of the cv hotspots last season was a ski resort with a lively apres ski. However summer skiing is operating on glaciers so the larger glacier resorts probably will with sd in place. It may depend where you are going and how incidence in next few months goes.

We've booked for half term. Got a Covid waiver insurance and very cheap flights so going to wait till nearer the time and see what situation is like.

@massistar Feb half term? Good plan

Yep. Feb half term. Have had to forego our summer holiday so hoping against hope that everything will be fine by then! Got a catered chalet with group of friends.

Most of the ski countries don’t have outside mask rules anyway so nothing to suggest you’d have or use them on chair lifts etc

Most people get on a chair lift with their family so that won’t be an issue - all same bubble

We all wear gloves!

Can’t see any issues with ski holidays as it’s all outside! Most places don’t have mask rules for outside anyway -certainly not ski areas

We are booked for Feb half term and will still go subject to fco advice

May just have to change country depending on cases but likely be free amendments anyway as most companies waving fees to change destination
