BA return flight cancelled - outbound tomorrow, what now?

DDs return flight has been cancelled. The outbound is tomorrow and she now can't go as alternative return flights are prohibitively expensive.

I've gone to manage booking and it says I can cancel or change booking but the options at the bottom are "Request Voucher" or "Change Booking". From the FAQs, the voucher can only be used by phoning and I can't even get into the queue on the phone - it just says call back later - so how do I get a refund? Has anyone had any recent success getting a refund rather than a voucher please? I know I had a similar situation with EasyJet recently and after digging around, found the link to get a refund, and have since received it so wondered if BA has similar buried away online?

Hi Houseplant, I had the same thing recently where I called BA and couldn’t even get put in the queue. I was waiting 10-15 mins in between calling but eventually tried 3 calls in a row and got through on the last one. Don’t give up as you will get through and that’s the only way to receive a refund. Hope that helps!

Have you tried the BA First tel line? Haven't used it in a while so not sure if this still works but the number is 0800 331 1332.
They may try and fob you off as they'll say it's only for first passengers etc but worth a shot.
Alternatively DM them on Twitter, they're pretty responsive.
Good luck

The refund system (telephone) has got better recently, it generally works eventually..........as sabrina says don't give up.

Not sure how the OP got on but as well as the standard "uk" number - which is best called early AM, I've heard a suggestion of using Skype to contact the BA's US number, +1 877 7677970.

BA should be offering her alternative flights at no charge, or a refund.

Update: after tweeting BA repeatedly over a week I have finally been told the flights will be refunded but they don't know how long that will take.

FYI they've now changed their vouchers. I had one issued months ago and they emailed me last week giving me the option to have it exchanged for a regular voucher which can be used online, for the full value of the booking.

Previously, I had 4 separate "future travel vouchers" which could only be used by the person named on the ticket. So despite obviously paying for two children's tickets I was unable to use £600 of my own money! Thankfully they've seen the light...
