Where in Croatia?

Hi! Has anyone been to Croatia? Where is nice for a family (10 year old with some special needs) pls?! We were looking at Makarska?

Thinking June/July/Aug next year. Like nice scenery, quite traditional but near beaches/marina/shops/cafes/restaurants etc - pref within an hour or so transfer from airport.

Also, trying to choose between Croatia and Fiskardo in Kefalonia, Greece! Or other Greek islands...

Croatia is fabulous I've never taken so many photos. Each place is quite different and as we travelled as an older couple I don't think I can advise where might suit you best. I've been to Kefalonia which is also lovely but many years ago. What I would say is Greece will almost certainly be cheaper than Croatia. In Croatia we travelled the length of the country, though didn't stop Makarska, and found that the further south we went the more touristy and expensive it became. I wasn't that keen on Split itself, too busy, but its proximity to the airport and Makaska would be good and it's the hub for ferries to the islands which are stunning. The coves are stunning but actual sandy beaches are not generally that plentiful in most of Croatia. Hope that helps.

Zadar in the north is lovely and not too far from Krka national park which is stunning.

We stayed just up the coast from Makarska, at Baska Voda. We loved it. There are no sandy beaches, but that didn't bother us as I find sand a bit of a faff.

Unlike the PP, I really liked Split! We went in a May half term so perhaps less busy than in the summer. It has ferry services out to a variety of islands and is a pretty and historic town with a number of beaches.
