Ban on travel to Spain - thoughts on if it will be lifted.

Hi all,

Meant to by going to Ibiza on the 20th Aug. I'm booked as a package with Jet2.

So if we can't travel will get a full refund or transfer to another destination. Greece or wherever. At this point I'm not even bothered about going away.

Does anyone know when the next travel announcement is? Or what have an option on the likelihood of the ban in Spain being lifted?

If Jet2 are telling people to leave Spain early I'd say it was highly unlikely that Spain could happen in August.

I live in Tenerife and the latest news we have received is that this will be reviewed in 10 days time. It's absolutely ridiculous that we in the canaries and balearics are being treated the same as mainland Spain. It's so much safer here than uk. Don't cancel your holiday wait and see what happens. Things are changing all the time so fingers crossed you get your holiday!

Thanks both. Yeah I doubt it will be lifted and agree it is ridiculous that the canaries and Balearics are being lumped together. I can change to Greece if needs be, it's just the not knowing x

I'd switch in your position.

@Ellmau - I can only switch if the gov still implement the 'essential travel only' rule for Spain. Hopefully I'll know more this week.

Waiting for developments on this too as due to fly to Majorca on 14 August. Actually feel sorry for Jet2 as the Govt has flim-flammed on the Islands so much...

@legoqueen - I agree, and from what I see Jet2 are doing all they can. I've booked with Jet2 for the past 5 years. I know they'll be doing all they can. They cancelled Balearics and Lanzarote till the 9th, so hopefully we will hear something soon. Xxx

Spain still off the 'safe to travel' list as if last night.

I've moved my ibiza holiday from October to April. With BA holidays. They refunded the deposit and I just rebooted. Much cheaper as well so I upgraded us to Club Europe Grin

I was informally told on Tuesday that Jet 2 are still trying to get the FCO ban lifted for the Islands...

@legoqueen - interesting. We're you told that from Jet2? They have suspended holidays to the Balearics and Canaries until the 09th - so they will have to make a decision either way soon.

Not officially Grin but I messaged them via Twitter today & was told they are still discussing with the Government - as you say, we need a decision soon!

Cases are rising in Greece. If not going to Ibiza I would probably try for a refund or move to next year

@legoqueen - yeah they said pretty much the same to me, they're waiting for an update of the government but too keep my eye on social over the next few days. I can't believe it's gone to the wire.

My Jet 2 Majorca flights were cancelled today, but I gather that only flights up to & including 15 August are included so far...relieved that it's happened a week before rather than the night before & I've time to put Plan B in action (although mindful that could be scuppered too even though it's UK...).

@legoqueen I'm the 19th so. I'll find out next week. Not really sure how I'm feeling about it. In two minds whether to cancel it go to Greece.

It's hard to know what to do isn't it - I prefer certainty generally but this pandemic isn't kind to planners...good luck Grin

Due to go to Canaries on the 28th so I'm in the same position. TUI have now cancelled everything up to the 16th. Really feel like they should exclude islands from the advice, it's ridiculous.

Apparently you can now to Spain from the 23 August.

That's Jet2 hedging their bets. It doesn't mean the travel advice will change by then unfortunately. They will just move the dates out if it doesn't change.
