Can anyone tell me about Greece?

Hi, looking for next year. Somewhere family friendly, not too rowdy but with a few restaurants and bars and some culture/history/day trips (love a boat trip) thrown in for when we are done with the pool/beach. Kids will be 11 and 14. Any suggestions? Many thanks.

Do you have a particular island in mind? We’ve stayed in Almyrida in Crete (near Chania) which is a quiet small resort, very sheltered bay, gorgeous area to explore. Very green with the mountains in the distance. We stayed B&B at the Almyrida Beach hotel which was perfect as we ate out each night in a different taverna. We’ve also been to Corfu twice and stayed in Agios Gordios (not to be confused with Agios Georgia’s) on the west coast which is slightly larger than Almyrida with 10-15 tavernas but still very relaxing. We stay right on the beach self catering to make the most of the amazing Greek food.
There are numerous Greek islands I still want to try, just have to persuade DH and DC 😂

Rhodes and Crete are great for first timers,. I'd recommend Georgiopolis on Crete it's halfway between Rethymnon and Chania with a regular bus service. On Rhodes we've stayed in Kremasti and Pefkos. Both are relaxed but Kremasti has a coarse sand beach so you'll need a pool and Pefkos is on the south coast so it's a bit of a trek to Rhodes town but easily done by bus.

Crete - lots of history in its own right, archaeological sights to visit. Can do day trips to Spinalonga and Santorini

I'd recommend the Peloponnese. It's not too bad a drive from Athens on good roads, lovely beaches, little towns like Stoupa. Boat trips, ancient site, lovely food. It is not at all rowdy. Very popular with Greeks, and middle-class Brits.

I love the Greek Islands - I particularly enjoyed Zante. We booked with jet 2 and they have lots of little family run hotels in smaller towns. Zante is a bit closer than the other islands if you want a shorter flight. Boat trips to see the turtles are nice and a trip up into the mountains is great.
