So is anybody going abroad in August with children?
I'm looking at booking a family holiday but I'm unsure... what's everyone doing

@Haveheart how exciting!! I can't wait to get there. We're flying on the 16th. When are you going out there?

ladyflower23 · 25/07/2020 14:27

Thank you for the tip @Ginfordinner my kids would that! Do you know if crossing to Rhodes by ferry for a day trip is possible? It looks like they're quite close.

Paddingtonthebear · 25/07/2020 14:43

A friend is in Majorca right now and says masks are compulsory around the hotel pool

bigmamama · 25/07/2020 21:20

@SooticaTheWitchesCat
Where abouts are you going ? Have you checked to see if everything is open? Pool restaurants etc?
I'm still undecided as what To do

@ladyflower23 we’ve had a few holidays cancelled this year so I’ll be excited when are actually on the plane! We fly out on the 12th so I’ll see you by the pool! 😆

Haveheart · 25/07/2020 21:54

*when we are

Paddingtonthebear · 25/07/2020 21:58

Just breaking now.. TUI cancels all flights from UK to Spain

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 26/07/2020 18:47

@bigmamama we are going to the Bodrum Peninsula. We have a house there so we don’t have to worry about a hotel.
Most bars and restaurants are open in the resorts although it is a lot quieter than usual.
We are just looking forward to a relaxing holiday:)

Flashinggreen · 26/07/2020 20:08

Off to Rhodes 22nd August

CyclesPerfecta · 27/07/2020 19:18

We’re still going to Croatia mid-August. Booked it a year ago, and after travelling to Prague over a week ago to visit family, I feel that it could be done safely. But we both work from home so if a quarantine is enforced when we’re back we’re ok with it.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 30/07/2020 22:26

Yes just booked. My mum had a cow 🙄

bigmamama · 30/07/2020 23:01

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun where and when are you going ?

OP posts:
ladyflower23 · 31/07/2020 07:53

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun my mum told me I'm very naughty Shock

Palmtree76 · 31/07/2020 12:59

I’ve just booked a two week holiday to Greece first week of September. Praying now that nothing changes and it can go ahead as planned

bigmamama · 01/08/2020 07:14

Now there has been more restrictions added again and local lockdowns.. has anyone regretted the decision to still go on the upcoming holiday or to even have booked one ?

Aren't any of you worried about getting caught in a local lockdown? My cousin got stuck in Bali for a week and had to pay an absolute fortune to get new flights home. He was terrified for the whole week as their insurance was invalidated, and if he had sick he would have been in huge trouble! The whole situation can change so quickly, and borders can suddenly close, I just wouldn't take the risk.

HeronLanyon · 01/08/2020 07:31

Too many risks / comprises for me -
Health insurance
Local health care
being remote from family friends
The travel risks - just don’t want to be on a plane / ferry / train unless essential.
Masks when there.
Local lockdown risks
Quarantine when back risks
Generally spreading risks by being out and about doesn’t seem right with rising r rates in many countries

To all who do travel and have a fab time - well done but really not for me this year.
Mfull disclosure - I went to the Maldives returning in February. So I feel my ‘non uk holiday battery’ is still charged.

userxx · 01/08/2020 07:39

@bigmamama Just go and enjoy yourself. If it gets cancelled last minute you'll get your money back eventually.

ImAncient · 01/08/2020 10:39

We’re off to Cyprus but not worried as we have a house - well my parents do so not staying in a hotel. And if we get stuck out there we don’t need to worry about accommodation.

Doraismissing · 02/08/2020 14:36
@Ginfordinner we're staying at the Atlantica Beach Resort. It's near Kardamena. Everything about the sounds wonderful so fingers crossed it goes ahead without any covid incidents 😬

@rookiemere we're staying away from all our family and friends for the 2 weeks before we go for exactly that reason!
We are current at the Atlantica Beach Resort and it's fine. Safer than Cornwall or Devon looking at the news.

Lots of face mask and gloves wearing in the dinning room/buffet. The place is immaculate and constantly being cleaned.

Atlantica have spent quite a lot of money on the place over the winter and looks fab.

Have a great time

If you want pool side sun beds you will need to get up early. 6:30 guarantees you a spot but most gone by 7:30. Just put your towel out and go back to bed. Bec of COVID they are not moving the towels - a bit of a nightmare but the beach is lovely and less crowded (and quieter)

bigmamama · 02/08/2020 20:15

Made the final decision to not go. I actually feel gutted lol, the main concern to us was having to come home early incase the area got lockdown or something. Although I know so many people still going away and planning holidays to Spain this month and next! Just feels wrong to drag 2 small kids around

OP posts:
ladyflower23 · 06/08/2020 14:42

Thanks for the tips @Doraismissing. We usually prefer the beach so that's good to hear that it's not so busy. I haven't been able to find out much about the food. Do they have chips?! My DC are really fussy eaters but if there's chips at least I know they won't starve! Hope you are having a great holiday Smile

Doraismissing · 06/08/2020 14:52

@Ladyflower23
Def chips. Lots of plain food like grilled chicken, pizza and plain pasta (sauce separately served). Kids seemed happy with the choices.

Will try to post beach photo from yesterday.

Thanks @Doraismissing that's reassuring about the food. Wow it looks so beautiful. I just can't wait to be there!
