Anyone else now going to France?

Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

We’re planning to go still. Not worried about quarantining.

But if France reciprocates - when will that happen. We’re not leaving until Tuesday...

Greenbeanie88 · 14/08/2020 02:24

All this time we had planned to still go even if the advice changed but at 2am in the morning now and with us supposed to be leaving at 8am we are throwing the towel in.

We have no-where to go and the builders are taking over our house on Monday.
What frustrates me most is the lateness in the day of the announcement. We have no way to call anyone to see what can be done. Gutted

Are you driving? If so, what about car insurance?
loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/08/2020 05:18

Slept for approx 4 hours and now wide awake trying to decide what to do. Ferry sails first thing this morning, due to leave home at 7.

Our car insurance is valid and we're tempted to still go and get Battleface for the health cover.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/08/2020 05:29

Meant to say IF our car insurance is valid

Fink · 14/08/2020 06:07

Are you driving? We're agonising over whether to go but we think our car insurance wouldn't even be valid abroad anymore

Yes, I'm driving. I've read the car insurance policy document really carefully and can't see anything which would invalidate it. I drive an old car worth approximately £100 so I've got third party cover only because anything else isn't worth it.

I don't think there is anything stopping you going at all.

But two weeks quarantine when you return. Make plans for that and go ahead to see your family. C'est la vie.

The FCO has advised against all but essential travel. If you go anyway, your insurance will almost certainly be invalid. Its really not worth it.
SophocIestheFox · 14/08/2020 06:26

balls, balls balls!

It’s not unsurprising, but i was really hoping against hope. It doesn’t change any of our plans, (coming back to the uk to second home from France) but it makes everything 50% more shit and difficult, plus worries about how we get back to France when we need to in a couple of months. Fucks sake, when will there be some good news?

Snooper22 · 14/08/2020 06:53

I'm still going!

zippyswife · 14/08/2020 06:59

My heart sunk when I read the news this morning. I feel for you all so much. I was hoping you’d all be ok Flowers Flowers @Greenbeanie88 @loveisagirlnameddaisy I know it’s taken the shine off it but you could still go and get battleface. That was our plan.

@zippyswife are you there safely? We're on our way to Dover. Too late to cancel and I'm am beyond furious with the late announcement. We'll get Battleface today.

I'm still going!
Tell me more! Have you got insurance? Are you driving?
SummerNamechangeHappened · 14/08/2020 07:08

Think we may still go & just get battleface. Any idea how much that will cost?

Jemimatheragdoll · 14/08/2020 07:28

If France instigates a reciprocal agreement and/or impose local lockdowns it's going to make holidays seem, well, not much of a holiday!

What a shame especially for those going today and next few days.

I'm hoping we'll be able to cancel our Eurotunnel tickets completely but have a feeling we won't and will have to re book (goodness knows for when) or lose the money.

Don't even want to book anything in the UK just yet in case of local lockdowns

Snooper22 · 14/08/2020 07:31

I'm flying tomorrow morning. I'm going to my house my partners collecting me from the airport.

Fink · 14/08/2020 07:34

The against FCO insurance I'm looking at is £66 for 2 of us for 2 weeks with a £1000 excess, £92 with a £250 excess.
loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/08/2020 07:39

@fink is that Battleface?

zippyswife · 14/08/2020 07:41

@SummerNamechangeHappened when I got a quote it was £260 for 5 of us for 17 days in France. Just to give you an idea. It’s quick to get a quote. Good luck

@loveisagirlnameddaisy we’re at our stopover and travelling rest of the journey today. Enjoy your holiday. I’m furious for you all. But Try not to let all this taint it.

LoeliaPonsonby · 14/08/2020 07:45

We cancelled last night - we couldn’t take the risk of having to self isolate when we got back. Looks like it was the right choice but still a bummer.

EmmaCB1 · 14/08/2020 07:48

Slept on it here and think we’ll go anyway although watching to see if quarantine arrangements are reciprocated. It just feels so sad that we cancelled a trip to Italy and booked the tunnel to France instead as it felt safer than going through an airport and mixing with thousands from all over the world. Plus it felt safer heading to a private gite in rural France than a hotel in busy Cornwall for example.

I feel for those who had to make a snap decision due to the late announcement last night. Honestly, I’m questioning everything the government is doing at the moment.

barbites · 14/08/2020 07:48

France are saying they will reciprocate, surely it's not worth going?

Parker231 · 14/08/2020 07:53

We’ve a few more days before we have to make a decision but currently we’re working on me going to the wedding but DH won’t be able to.

mynameiscalypso · 14/08/2020 07:54

I assume France's quarantine will be similar to before the air bridges came in ie voluntary.

Greenbeanie88 · 14/08/2020 07:55

@zippyswife thank you! Part of the reason we cancelled was because we literally can make no phone calls to sort anything out. Still really gutted but for those still going/are there I hope you have a lovely break.
To top it off - all our furniture went to storage yesterday so we're in a house with a few dining chairs and a table from the shed!!

squishee · 14/08/2020 07:55

I would like to know the same thing about just passing through France for the ferry vs self-Isolation. Surely if the rules were different for those just passing through, a lot of people would use it as an excuse to get around the rules?
