Anyone else now going to France?

Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

Gutted. Such a shame. We’ve been keeping safe and would have been SD in Puy de Dome (very low cases). Will start insurance claim tomorrow. Everyone’s a loser.

User27aw · 13/08/2020 22:18

Gutted. I thought this afternoon it would be left off the list. Really fed up.

I don't think there is anything stopping you going at all.

But two weeks quarantine when you return. Make plans for that and go ahead to see your family. C'est la vie.

carlyfrench · 13/08/2020 22:19

Oh bollocks. Another insurance claim

whataboutbob · 13/08/2020 22:20

@mynameiscalypso that’s rough. I know what it’s like just to crave being with family. My favourite cousin was due to join us from France on a holiday ina lovely cottage in wales. Technically he could come as his Eurostar is tomorrow but I suspect he’ll chose not to now. @Parker231that might be a plan. I guess you’d have to stay away from your partner though especially as he’s a medic?

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2020 22:21

@saltycat Our travel insurance won't be valid I don't think as the FCO now advise against travel (I'm also immunosuppressed not that I think I'm anymore at risk in France than here)

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2020 22:21

Thanks @whataboutbob, this whole thing is just rubbish isn't it? I'm sorry about your cousin

Thunderpunt · 13/08/2020 22:22

I would like to know if travelling through to another country (and vice versa for the return) will still mean quarantine.....

bakingbernie · 13/08/2020 22:25

The FCO have updated their website

I read into this. If you do not leave your method of transport at all then you are fine.

If you leave it for whatever reason, or someone gets in, you must quarantine.

Aragog · 13/08/2020 22:25

I'm assuming the FO advice will change. If so I don't think Dd will be able to go away now as don't think our insurance would cover her.

Boredbumhead · 13/08/2020 22:26

Bollocks. I am hoping that my travel company eurocamp will refund me but I doubt it

Thunderpunt · 13/08/2020 22:27

@Skyliner001 hmmm interesting- normally stop over in France to break up journey but could avoid that by stopping other side of border if that's the case and do one long slog up to eurotunnel..... we've done it before. Thanks

Glad it helped, enjoy your hols!

Fink · 13/08/2020 22:31

I'm off to get the high risk travel insurance then. Bye bye to my £30 annual cover.

Fink · 13/08/2020 22:33

@saltycat You have to provide contact details as part of the form to return to England, and then they do random phone checks to make sure you're at the address you said you would be. I don't know how they know that over the phone (if you didn't give a landline).

Daft question but could someone not just leave their phone at home?

Fink · 13/08/2020 22:41

There are multiple ways to circumvent the quarantine, probably. Yes, leaving your phone at home and letting a family member answer it pretending to be you would be one. I don't even know if they send you a preliminary message to check you've provided a real number (I know people's forms weren't being checked at all at some ports). Personally I don't answer the phone to private numbers, so if they called on that they wouldn't get me anyway. I accidentally answered a private number today and it was kids on a prank call. It's a system which seems to rely mainly on people voluntarily following the rules because the enforcement is crap.

MinnieMousse · 13/08/2020 22:43

I'm assuming they may be a bit more vigilant now they've introduced quarantine, but I dutifully filled in the passenger locator form when I returned from France 2 weeks ago and nobody checked at all when we arrived at Dover (on the ferry). They had signs up that they would be checking everyone's form but no cars at all were pulled over. In fact it's the quickest I've ever got out of Dover.

merrytombombadil · 13/08/2020 22:47

I know two families who have cancelled their holidays due this week at short notice - the feeling being that govt announcing French quarantine and the kids missing the first 2 weeks back at school just isn't worth the risk.

GU24Mum · 13/08/2020 22:51

We were due to go a week tomorrow - the last few days it's been a bit unsettling being sure it was about to happen but I think I secretly hoped the number would go the other way and we'd make it...... off to dig out the insurance policy!

HoldingTight · 13/08/2020 22:55

Just tried to log onto the Eurotunnel site to check our tickets...

Anyone else now going to France?
Limeavocado · 13/08/2020 22:56

Surely anyone just travelling through France - even staying in their vehicle all the time - will be mixing with people travelling from France on the ferry in fairly close quarters (loos, cafe etc) and therefore are just as likely to pick up an infection (if there is indeed a high risk) as if they'd stopped off in France?

Fink · 13/08/2020 22:57

@HoldingTight Matches your username ha ha!

Let us know what result you get when you finally get through. I'm assuming services will still run. If not then I'm screwed!

QueenCoconut · 13/08/2020 22:57

What about people driving from Germany but taking the Calais- Dover ferry?
Does being on the P&O ferry mean you have to quarantine even if you never visited France ?
