Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

Twitter chatter picking up that it’ll be announced for France, Holland and Malta Sad

saltycat · 13/08/2020 21:14

If you don't want to spread this bastarding virus stay home.

If you absolutely NEED to get to France ask yourselves why you do and is it absolutely necessary.

France is fkd for the moment and I wouldn't set foot in it anytime soon, same for Spain and Greek cases are also rising by the noon day too.

This thing is not going anywhere, but for now if people just stayed at home, wash their hands and wear a mask, things could ease for now.

I await the backlash, but it is a personal thing just the same I know that.

Bearbehind · 13/08/2020 21:23

saltycat you’re quite right - Covid is going nowhere

How long do you think the world can survive if we all just stay couped up?

A vaccine might never happen

Cases might be increasing but deaths are not rising at the same rate

Given we’re mainly all expect to get it at some point the rise in cases feels like it’s being blown out of proportion

Can you link? I’m hopeless with twitter without a direct link.

Parker231 · 13/08/2020 21:29

Everyone has their own levels of managing risk. For me going to Belgium recently to see my parents was worth it (this was before the travel corridor to Belgium was withdrawn). We will go again as soon as the position improves.

We’re due in France at the end of the month for a friends wedding. Cases are very low in their region - less than here. So long as the position doesn’t change, we will definitely be going to the wedding of the decade (for us).

Well Guardian are saying just Malta and Holland, Telegraph saying France too from Sunday

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2020 21:40

Breaking news via the telegraph that it's on the quarantine list. Bugger.

Apparently comes into force at 4am on Saturday, just breaking news now

PMTRex · 13/08/2020 21:59

Bugger!

1stMrsF · 13/08/2020 22:01

Came on to share the BBC link. Can see others are ahead of me but in case it's useful.

France to be added to UK quarantine countries www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53773914

whataboutbob · 13/08/2020 22:04

Yes just heard it on radio 4. Really sorry for everyone on this thread 😕.

PotatoHead2020 · 13/08/2020 22:05

For anyone it's relevant to the FCO advises against all but essential travel to France NOW (quarantine from Saturday 4am). This may affect your insurance, be careful please. Sorry to those upset by the news.

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2020 22:08

Thanks @PotatoHead2020, that's useful to know. DH thinks we should still go and just quarantine when we get back but that would be a nightmare with an overactive toddler to entertain in a flat.

Limbolady · 13/08/2020 22:08

I was trying to be optimistic this afternoon too. I knew it was likely to be happening and I understand the reasoning but I’m still disappointed.

Wincher · 13/08/2020 22:10

Sob. My DH is now walking around with a face like the thunder we just heard.

saltycat · 13/08/2020 22:10

This is so boring now, if you want to go, then go.

If you decide to stay in your country that is your decision. But a good one all the same, supporting our own end of day.

I know which one I support anyway for this year of Covid anyway.

Parker231 · 13/08/2020 22:10

We are discussing me going to the wedding on my own as I can work from home during a quarantine period. DH is a doctor and can’t do a quarantine period as can’t go.

saltycat · 13/08/2020 22:13

Wonder who is monitoring the quarantine from all these places including France.

Anyone know? I would observe it voluntary myself, but that is not going to stop others from dodging it.

mynameiscalypso · 13/08/2020 22:14

Why are you reading this thread if it's so boring @saltycat? Just let us wallow in peace!

I'm pretty gutted. These are the last few weeks of my maternity leave and I wanted to spend them with DS and my family in France. Instead, we'll be cooped up in our flat again.

saltycat · 13/08/2020 22:15

Voluntarily
