Jersey

I am considering a 4 night break in October. Not booking yet as waiting to see what happens over the next month or so but easyjet fly direct and I like the look of the Merton Hotel.

Has anyone been recently or does anyone live there? It’s been at least 30 years since I was last there. We’ve got DS who is 11.

Is Durrell Zoo still as good? We will likely see the war tunnels, have a cream tea, hire a car and see places like Gorey. Walk around St Helier and hope for dry weather.

Any other tips? I’m torn between 4 days not being enough - actually only 3 full days due to fight times and a week being too long.

I love jersey in October. In the summer the colours are so vibrant but they are much softer in autumn. I usually go 4-5 times a year as my db and my dd live there.

From what I can gather everything is much nearer back to normal then on the mainland. I’ve actually not been to the zoo so can’t comment on how it is compared to how it was but my db takes their foster kids there quite regularly and they always seem to love it. I think the restaurants and tea rooms are open (from what I can see from my favourite places that I follow on social media). Car hire is available.

I am going over next month (if the borders stay open) for my dd’s surprise birthday party (should have been in March but their lockdown started on the actual day) and I’m happy to report back. They are being strict on testing so you’ll be tested and have to isolate until you receive a clear result. Or, you can have a test over here within 72 hours of your arrival which will mean you don’t lose a day waiting for results.

Also, I would recommend creepy valley for your ds. My dc love it there

Thank you. I hadn’t appreciated you need a test to enter Jersey. Will keep an eye on that.

We stayed at The Merton last year. It was a lovely hotel. We stayed half board and the food was very good.

Pootle40 · 19/07/2020 19:50

We are going to the Merton in two weeks. Will be tested on arrival. As previous poster says there is an element of not 'socialising' until you get your results but not officially required to 'self isolate' as there is a distinction. Results seem to be c 24 hours by txt. Happy to report back but can't wait to go. We've visited many times before but not the Merton.

Pootle40 · 19/07/2020 19:51

By the way tests are not required for kids 11 and under.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 19/07/2020 19:57

@Pootle40 please report back. We're due to go 22nd August & staying at the Merton.

OP we stayed last summer & it was great with the kids. Pool, buffet, kids club evening entertainment in hotel.
Outside the Zoo was great, my 2 enjoyed Amaizin - adventure park place too but they haven't made the mazes this year so we probably won't go back.

Will do @bubblebubblebubbletrouble. 😊

Have a great time!
